My 2 cents:
If you are talking a HP track then HP will drop more lap time per point than tires. But, here is what i can tell you about tires. You would be hard pressed in TT and even in PT to find a front running car not running on either hoosiers or BFGs. It's not as bad as it used to be when the autocross tires didnt bump you up a whole class but it still holds true. |
If there isn't contingency money then buy what your budget allows. If there is contingency money buy what puts some tire money back in your pocket.

I ended up running the 225 NT-01s that I had and taking 3 points for being 8lbs under the base weight.
Spec Miata's were doing ~1:49s. The winning TTE car a BMW ran 1:51.491 and my best was 1:53.497 the following day. I think I can close more than half of that 2s gap w/ better driving. Stickier tires and more power will help close the rest. Thanks! |

The current TTE record at VIR is held by an Integra on RC-1s. VIR is for sure a HP track, but I was surprised when he posted about his record.

There was no dyno at events when he did that time.
