Under Bracing
 

I have been looking a Bracing from FM, Ultra Racing and so on... I was wondering on how your experiences with them on and off the track. I'm thinking of making some from scratch so I can mount my flat aluminium under body to something.

I have just done a couple of track days without any braces anywhere. The car felt fine. And i would doubt my times would be quicker with braces on. And to put it in context i am only 0.2-0.3 seconds of the lap record for modified and restricted open. And my car is very mildly modded compared to the other guys.

The FM braces make daily driving a hell of a lot more comfortable, especially over bumps. I think it depends on the condition of your current frame rails as I had to beat mine with a hammer and reshape them to fit the braces on.

I've got the FM rail covers and butterfly brace. I'm not sure how much the butterfly part of the brace really does to the total chassis stiffening. To be honest it is a pain in the ass to make sure that your exhaust clears. I'll tell you that first time your exhaust makes contact with it you won't soon forget it!

My friend bought his car with the brace and ended up keeping the rails but selling off the butterfly cross brace when he got his full 3" exhaust.

I'm looking at getting a full 3" exhaust so I may end up selling off the butterfly brace portion as a way to help finance my new pipes:idea:

I've had FM rails for a couple of years a long with my HDHCSD roll bar. I recently added in the factory rear subframe/bracing from the 94+ and notice a little improvement. I added the boss frog arms that go under the fender and they did WONDERS for the car.

I also have the buttefly brace section now, and still not sure it was really worth it.

I've been on the fence with the boss frog arms, as I'm only making stock NA8 power. Now you have me thinking as my car has almost 200k miles on it and I think any chassis stiffening can't hurt at this point.

I'm looking to do a Boss Frog complete upgrade -- Double Hoop Max + Door Bars + Frog Arms.

Most swear by door bars . . . downside being the encroachment into the cabin.

No, just a triangle shaped rollbar.

Im looking at doing a weld in roll cage hoop with the door bars and im going to wait to put in the forward roof bars. I diffidently need more safety in case of a roll over, after watching some of the Miata's on there lid. I think a full 8 Point weld in roll cage should tighten up the chassis more than the bracing

I'm one to swear by the door bars. I have the FM rails and butterfly brace along with the boss frog door bars. My god, it makes things so much better.

While i was still on r package suspension with no roll bar it was handling better than similar cars on coilovers.

The ride is a little more harsh though.

Everyone i give a ride to, or let drive my car say the door bars aren't even noticeable, you just have to be a little careful getting in.

How about this S2000, Its is a Opera S2000 they took it from 2976lbs to 2167lbs while making it more ridged. My car as it sits now weighs 2100lbs
