throw on the dual axle freeby trailer (I have to service it once a year and pay the rego, approx $100 p/a) and away we go. Tows well, we can only do 100kph so 150hp does it easy. Plenty of room for tyres, spares and still room for sleeping.

I'm using an open trailer with a 2008 Avalanche. Tows fine though I am going to upgrade the trailer to a Sloan Kwik Load to make it a bit easier. This was taken a few hours ago as I'm heading to a track tomorrow morning, INDE Motorsports Park in Willcox, AZ if anyone wants to know.

Thanks! Must just be the angle of the picture. I'll throw get it up on a lift soon to get a detailed inspection done, but overall the truck appears to be in excellent shape with 140k miles. Everything works great and it feels very solid going down the road.

So are the diesel Ram's from that era better then the Ford 7.3 diesel from the same time frame? I have always heard off hand that dodge's have shitty transmissions.

Previous tow vehicle. The 318 wasn't fast, but who cares with an open trailer.

Just as good if not better. Easy to work on, easy to make fast.

The 5spd are good. The problem is the 12v truck is like a dsm. A screwdriver and hammer you can almost double the tq/hp. Auto trans can't handle it you have to get it rebuilt to handle the tq.

It also comes down to maintenance and getting the tranny fluid changed on the regular

Just to reiterate, you'll want to put a fuel pressure gauge on your truck ASAP. Low fuel pressure into the injection pump is a sure fire way to kill an $800+ part. My understanding is that the earlier 24v trucks are more probe to this.

I probably need to do a trans fluid flush on my truck.

How hard is it to do in a normal home garage? Any specific fluid that these trucks like best?

Spoon feed me plz...I can't read Cummins forumz, it hurts my head.

Seeing as I've already had multiple people suggest this, I'll probably get on this soon along with replacing all the fluids.

The auto has a dipstick so it's really easy to just drain and fill. Keep an eye on it tho. Run it low and you will be wishing you didn't. My dad had his trans go out at 80k. out of nowhere it was 2qts low and the tail shaft bearing went out.

Any ATF+4 Chrysler has a list floating around. Biggest thing is intervals I think dodge said every 30k on the 2nd gens. Problem is you don't know the history of the truck You don't wanna do a full flush. So drain a few qts change the filter and add the qts back every 10k or so until the fluid starts looking cleaner.

The nv4500. run castrol synTORQUE. Not syntech! It can be rather hard to find.

Full flush = no bueno. Drain, fill, drive, repeat until you like the color coming out when you drain.

I don't think the 7.3 Ford auto trans is quite as bad as the 5.9 Dodge's, but neither is all that tough.

I got (for a work mule) a mid 90s F350 crew cab with the 460 gas big block, 5-speed manual, 4x4. Frankly, that thing is a beast and it was like a third the price of what I see the OBS diesels trading for. I'd pull a big enclosed with it without a thought.

My personal truck is a Ford with the 6.0 Powerstroke. It pulls like a freight train, but these diesels nickel and dime you to death. I wouldn't mind stepping down to a OBS like the work mule we picked up. It would just need to be presentable as to not offend my the HOA.

On the way back from NASA Nationals East.

Total setup is ~68ft of sheer pleasure (TWSS?) and about 23k as loaded for nationals. Full fresh/grey/black and tons of spares (we had a water hookup at Road Atlanta). Usually get 6.5-7mpg doing 65 because Im not old enough to poke along at 60.

Sidenote: I had it parked in the driveway, same exact configuration. HOA threatened to tow it because someone complained. I replied to the association manger with:
