Here it is. I would remove the rear gate if the general consensus is "it would be OK here and there" and ignore the steel on the bed, i debated extended the deck 2 feet but am hesitant as I dont want thr tongue weight to be excessive.
I mean, it's rated for 3k lb load, a miata is well under that. Not going to say it's a goooood idea though. If you do, take it very slow and make sure you get the load balanced well.
I have pulled a miata on a 6.5x8ft landscaping trailer, but it was a stripped shell and we lifted it on with 5 people.
It could fail catastrophically and total both the Miata and the tow vehicle and maybe kill a pregnant woman and a couple of small children? Might as well send it.
I wouldn't even use that thing. The way that pintle hitch(wtf why even?) is connected to the trailer makes me think it's not even road worthy the way it is.

HAHA thats well deserved. The trailer was a disaster when I got it. The hitch setup is laughable and will be addressed. It made it home somehow but it isn't staying the way it is to say the least.
I've seriously upgraded my towing setup. Previously I was using a V-10 Excursion and a small open trailer. Now I have this:
Truck is a 2003 Silverado 2500 with the 8.1, Allison 5-speed, and airbags in the rear. Paint is not good and the heated seats need new elements, but everything else works perfectly. Even the rear seat DVD player. This thing was fully loaded.
Trailer has a steel frame, so it's heavy, but has 5k torsion axles, front cabinets, and a 30-amp panel with shoreline. Also: E-TRACK FOR DAYS!

Interior floor length is 25 feet, so too short for two Miatas. Could maybe do a couple Exocets or Caterhams though (a man can dream, right?). On the other hand, that means there is plenty of space for other things while the Miata is still in the trailer.
It will certainly make the trip to Sonoma in September much nicer.

If you haven't towed single car in a long trailer, put the car just ahead of axles. I place a single car in my 42' gooseneck where the back of the car is just on the leading set of tires. More stable and manages tongue weight. Depends on hitch type, truck weight, other trailer load and what not.
If you get it right, its more stable in crosswinds and resists sway by itself.
This was my first week towing with my 11 Tahoe LTZ and it did fairly well. Not sure of my Miata weight, but I pulled it with a Uhaul trailer and all my gear. Mostly highway travel with some passage through some country roads with plenty of hills. The outside temp was 93-95 and my trans temp never got about 200*F. On some of the larger hills it felt like it could have use more power, but that could have just been me afraid to push the throttle down.
One odd thing was whenever I would get on the brakes it would do a small push once finally stopped. Is that because the Uhaul trailers don't have brakes? I tried messing with the brake controller, but that didn't seem to affect it much.
Other than that it was a good experience. Of course I got truck and trailer envy when I got to the track, but there were a few people towing much larger loads with the same Tahoe I have.
Gotta let that LS sing, they have a nice lump of power between 5-6k rpm just feels dirty using it with a trailer.
That funny feeling when stopping is a function of the surge brakes on the uhaul trailer, they aren't the smoothest thing in the world but overall pretty effective.
