So I'm sure I'm just an idiot, but for the life of me I cant find what hardware I need to attach the two shoulder belts of my harness to my hard dog harness bar, it came with two clips attached to the lap belt, and two metal brackets on the shoulder straps designed to be bolted to the body, but i figured why drill two more holes when I can just use my harness bar. But I can't find anyone talking about what hardware I need to use

Put up pictures of what you have for the shoulder belts. Do you have the peice of metal that looks like a rectangle with a bar down th emiddle? Did you buy them used? The shoulder straps are wraped around the bar.

I know the shoulder straps wrap around the bar, but what holds them there? is there some sort of clamp that holds one end of the wrap to the other? or do you wrap it around, then bolt it in?

and yeah I know its a crappy ebay knockoff and prob wouldnt keep me safe in an accident, but im really just looking for something to hold me in place during an autox.

I guess the answer to my question is, I need to buy a harness that comes with the hardware to attach it to a harness bar, instead of a universal one with mounting brackets already sewn in..

with a harness bar, you just loop the harness around the bar and back into the tensioner thing.

I dont have an NA but on my HD roll bar there is a tab that is welded on to the rear most bart of the bar that has a hole in it. The PO used that hole to install the sholuder strap mounted to.

yeah my bar didnt come with any tabs or anything, its just a welded in harness bar. I think I will be alright just sliding the metal mounting bracket off, then rethreading the strap through the belt tensioner thingy (what the hell is that piece called?)

*****I would not sugest that you do not do anything to that harness to get it to work in your car. Get new harnesses. DO NOT MODIFY THE ONES THAT YOU HAVE. You are putting your life at risk doing that.

That beeing said if you do decide to do that make shure that you sew the ends up very well to prevent any of the webbing from loosening which will allow it to stretch futher in an accident.

Wow. As everyone said:

1. Ditch the crappy belt.
2. Wrap new belt around harness bar and loop it back into the buckle, just like you're adjusting the length.

Just be sure you have a 5/6 point belt, even if it's expired. You need that anti-submarine belt to keep the buckle in the right place and of course keep you from submarining under the lap belt in an accident.

Even if you're using the stock seat there are a few people who have cut holes in the seat for a 5th point pass through, although I still wouldn't recommend that since the shoulder belts can still slide off.

Damn! That's quite a piece of **** that you managed to find, but I suppose that as long as you don't ever, ever, ever ever ever ever ever [/christucker] run that on the street then you might not die from submarining out of a shittily designed 4-point. Of course, cars have been known to hit immovable objects at autocrosses too.

If you want to go cheap, a CG Lock is a good option. I've ridden several times at VIR in a quick RX-8 on BFG R1 slicks that generates quite a bit more lateral grip than you will be putting down at an autox, and the stock 3-point belts hold you in place just fine if you lock them up properly. This can be done either by sharply tugging the plain stock belt to lock it and then sliding your seat forward, or with a device like a CG Lock. This would certainly be safer than the aforementioned marvel of Chinese engineering in the event you ever hit something.

thanks for the help everyone. Im going to keep an eye out for a good deal on a seat, then get a cheap 6 pt i guess (by cheap I mean good deal, not poorly manufactured) I didnt think about hitting anything at an autox, i guess the chances are small but I might as well play it safe and just be ready for anything.

Look at G-Force belts. You can get a brand new set with camlocks and FIA certs for $150. If you're spending less than that, you're buying crap.

is there a big advantage between the camlock and just regular latching belts? is it worth the extra money just for the camlock?
