Are the bumper print files available somewhere? All trash can bumpers need to die, including mine.

Great work so far on this swap.

I would actually take that as a positive rather than a negative. This thread is so successful that you've got minions to deliver the bad news for you

We are all hoping for enlightenment for the next turbo Miata easy button platform. Keep up the good development work for us.

We also like carnage pictures too.

Man, I read that in Morty's voice before you posted that @SimBa

Wingman's IG is a great source of live carnage updates. If you want to stay out of the rabbit hole that is social media, it might be worth making a burner account and following only him lol.

Wait, billion dollar idea: Wingman Patreon or OnlyFans account for the most up to date hardcore content

Yup, CJ was my source for the lower. I don't have the files, but it's not my print to distribute regardless.

I'll get to a proper post in a few days, but the TL;DR to relieve the anticipation:
Lots of late nights, actually got the car together for the test day
2.5 hrs of sleep, drove 4hr down to RRR for said test day
Turned 1 cruising lap "Ok it didn't immediately fall apart, this is good!"
Started a proper flyer, oil pressure dropped in the sustained RH sweeper that is T1/T2, motor was rod knocking by the time I made it to T3.
Packed up, drove 4hrs back home, parked it in the garage to deal with later.

Bummer deal man, but like you said on IG, at least it's a cheap unopened motor.

Out of curiosity, did you have oil pressure protections set up in the ECU? I always wonder how well those actually work to save an engine in a situation like this.

They don’t. You can alert the driver quicker, maybe shut down the engine which is typically more dangerous than helpful, but once the lack of oil pressure has happened, the damage has happened.

I will say, I’ve seen a number of engines dip to the teens on track and not immediately knock. While improvements can always be made, I’d chock this one up to bad luck from a junk yard engine.

I'd normally agree with Curly, lots of car have oil pressure issues on track and drop like this without immediately knocking. However, the fact that this motor did immediately knock after this event tells me this was definitely the cause, no doubt.

I'd be looking into the oil pan design and also adding an accusump, I think. And continue testing on junkyard motors before you throw $$$ at some baller engine, but you know this already.

Yeah, but does the motor have 200,000 miles of 10,000 mile oil changes on it? Was it leaking like crazy and down to 3 of 5 qts or less for most of those 10,000 miles? Was it driven by a 17 y.o. dude trying to impress his gf or a grandma? Too many variables to say for sure that low oil pressure immediately causes knock on these engines, that’s my main point.
