OP: There is a thread somewhere around here about installing some mesh inside the valve cover baffles you might try. Its turns the baffles into a, sort of, catch can.

The problem is that there usually a really long set of baffles under the cover on the PCV side and a really short baffle on the intake side. If the baffles leak at all your going to get some coming out the intake side.

Thought I would update this since I believe I figured out the issue. I know it's been some time, but I forgot about this thread.

I believe the reason all the oil was being blown out was due to the fact that I did a poor job of sealing the baffles to the valve cover- I even missed one of the spark plug hole cutouts completely somehow. While I haven't run the motor yet to confirm, I'm confident this was the issue.

FWIW my elaborate breather, catch can, crankcase evac system failed miserably when driven hard in high grip left hand turns. It would fill up the catch can faster than it could gravity drain out a -10 drain and shoot oil everywhere.

capped off the PCV port in the valve cover and just vented from the other side plus an added port on the block and the problem disappeared. I think Hustler had the same experience.

The baffling in the valve cover for the PCV port is a failure no matter what you do to try and fix it. Cap it off and don’t use it vent elsewhere.

I'm using a protege valve cover this time around, so hopefully that will help me.

Bob is right. Run off the dirver's side port and do not use mesh because it will only make oil pool in the baffle then on the next turn it will be more likely to blow the baffle contents out. I've run roughly 6 tracks with the new, single sided port and have a perfect track record with it.

You don't run a block vent like Bod does, right?

I've been suffering from oil loss issues from the valve cover vents myself. I have a 2.0l FM block with a 99 head with a GT2560R running at 15-psi.

I currently have the passenger side 3/8" ( PVC ) port going to a catch can with a divider and wire mesh going to a 3/8" atmospheric vent, with a 5/8" return hose to a fitting on the oil pan, and on the driver side vent ( intake manifold side ) I simply have a filter coming straight off the 3/8" port.

Nothing I've tried has been successful so far in preventing oil loss, but right now it mostly comes from that vent above the turbo, particularly on right hand corners from what I assume is oil slosh.

I myself am considering having two 1/2" ports relocated on the valve cover, having the old ports sealed off, and then running them both to the catch can and putting two 1/2" atmospheric breathers off the can. Overkill perhaps, but with no vacuum source I don't know if its going overboard.

What do you guys think?.

Read bbundy's post from 3 posts ago about how he had the same setup and had issues, and deleted the PCV/passenger side vent, ran a single breather from the driver's side, and stopped having issues altogether.

He mentioned capping off the PVC vent and venting from the other side with a vent from the block as well, not just a single 3/8" vent off the cover. I can try it his way, but then I need to research a good spot/method to run a port off the block.

Any advice on that?. I'm fairly new to the boosted world so the learning curve has been aggressive for me as of late.

I know for a fact that Hustler does not have the block port. Try it without.

I have a vvt motor and enlarged the hole between the center baffle and drivers baffle. Welded shut the pcv hole. -12 fitting from drivers side baffle goes to exhaust with slashcut. No catch can. Works.

Extra bonus: for the people behind me, when I'm under boost my exhaust smells horrible from all the burning blowby.

Just to bring closure to this thread, I have resolved my issue. I have run ~2 tanks of fuel through my car, and last night when I went to drain the catch can not a drop came out- it was still bone dry. This confirms that the problem was with my poor sealing job on the baffles of my old valve cover.

hmmm... glad I saw this. I was in the market for a catch can just cuz I know forced induction calls for it. but after reading this it got me thinking about the baffle in my VC.
