Default Glowing turbo manifold.

1990 miata, turbo 1.6l with cast iron manifold, on dyno made 250, turned down to 220ish. Last night I did 2-3, 1-5th gear pulls near my house and came back popped my hood and my manifold was glowing a dark red, pretty dim couldn't even pick it up on camera or i would've taken a picture, i guess cast iron starts to glow at 8-900 degrees ferinhite. Afrs are good. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my timing?

Post a picture of your timing map.

Ensure you aren't locked at 10 degrees.

Ensure IAT ignition retard is set at a very high temperature and very low number of degrees and large steps.

Excessively retarded timing can cook a turbo. I lost two that way before I figured out what was happening.

my coated stainless long tube manifold would glow faintly at 1400°F EGT.

(ignore the small filter, that's not how it really was. you imagined it.)

Seems kind of sketchy that you have a filter that is letting out gas / oil right above your red hot manifold.

I will check my timing with a timing light to make sure my timing isn't set at 10 degrees, sadly i can't post my timing map because my computer took a sh** will be getting a new computer soon, but I know it's not to conservative, was tuned on the dyno

Your concern is noted. I will return to 12 years ago and do something about it.

also

here is a random picture from ~6 years ago after my time traveling. NO, I will not share the technology of time travel with you because you did not do as I say and ignore the filter!

You must be some kind of time traveler or I have tired eyes because I did not see any mention of the filter. But Pos cat, you made me LOL.

all important factors related to time travel. some hints below. Ignore the dabbing heiroglyph in the upper left. he's been punished.
