Wanting to change ecu what’s recommended?
Hi guys I have had an na Miata for years.I’m new with the turbo game so I’m gunna learn as I go. looking for what’s the better ecu to go with on the Miata these days? I just got an nb from my uncle fully built from FM hydra he said 310hp at the wheels on 9psi. It’s been his daily for yearsbeen garaged the last 5 years and has a few issues. one being I think the cat needs a replace. It won’t start when it’s hot. He didn’t have time for it anymore and now it’s my toy... I was thinking with hydra discontinued I wanted to put another up to date tuner in it. I already have to unhook and revers the hydra so I can pass my emissions in my area.

A tuner is a person. An ecu or standalone is the computer that runs your car.
Your uncle is either mistaken in his recollection or has been lied to pretty badly. A T25 will make less than 200 wheel horsepower on a 1.8 Miata engine at 9 PSI. There are no exceptions.
If you have emissions testing in your area you will have to switch the car completely back to stock to pass emissions. Then you will have to modify your car and just swap back to stock every few years to retest. There are no kits that legitimately pass emissions testing with a turbo on a Miata.
This forum is a great repository of knowledge about turbocharging Miatas. Spend some time studying and reading some of the build threads and figure out what you would like to move forward with.

ok thank you I’ll start to do some digging and learn from y’all. he must be mistaken. The cars faster than my v8 Miata so I just assumed... he’s had the car for 15 years it’s been threw FM 3 times for upgrades said he’s got about 40k invested and knows he can’t get out of it what he’s got in it so he gave it to me. I figure No matter what I got to put in the cars a win for me.

A MSPNP-Pro is probably the easiest way to upgrade to a better ECU. Haltech would be nice, but you will have to make a custom boomslang harness.
300+WHP at 9psi is something that is hard to fathom. 19PSI and 300whp is much more likely.

I’ll check those out thank you! I know the game lots and lots and lots of Research and hair pulling. Just looking for a better start than googling “Miata ecu upgrade” maybe I’ll find sticking with the hydra for now is the best road to go. Fix what’s broke and drive it
