Default NA/NB front suspension top arm failure

The bookface threw this up, apparently a spate of 2-3 similar failures on local cars, this being the most dramatic (and only photo I could find)..

I have never seen this nor heard of it. A search here produced nothing on 'suspension failure', though we know about the need to strengthen the lower front chassis ears. But upper?! Or have I just missed the memo?

Holy hell! I’ve personally never seen anything like that, on here or otherwise.

Only firsthand account I have of anything similar was a buddy of mine putting a tear in the lower part of the subframe that people gusset on his NB. Homie was running slicks and was an avid curb enthusiast…

Yes, there are a couple more photos showing cracks. states it is happening in atmo cars too. If you have big HP, big brakes, big sticky tyres ... maybe that is more than Mr Mazda designed it for. And if you use the kerbs a lot too ...

In any case, that pre-event nut-and-bolt check might now take in the front arm upper mount as well.
