Hello everyone, I was hoping to do way more lurking before I started asking stupid questions but I cannot find anything anywhere on this BEGi He-X system in my recently purchased Miata?
All I know is that it’s some package of upgraded parts but I cannot find documentation of it or how it works anywhere.
It’s an old system, would anyone well versed in these archaic systems be able to help me out?
Based off the HE-X thread on this site from 2007 (where all the pics are now gone unfortunately), it was an oddball cooling solution Corky Bell created. Looks like a big intercooler above a tiny radiator both behind the factory AC condenser, some sort of weird cooling reroute parts with possibly multiple thermostats. One of Corky's unknown-usefulness fabricated intakes he made after the good cast BEGI intakes were used up. Is there a hood vent? Cause that would make more sense. There looks to be an oil distribution block behind the radiator cap but I have no idea what the lower two oil lines are going.
Yep there are two hood vents on the top. How do I get in contact with Corky Bell and how do I remove this system?
i
I want to put a normal radiator in this car, remove the intercooler, or move the intercooler. Would there be anything I should be aware before I swap these things?
I have no idea what happened to BEGI employees. They may all be dead by now, Corky was old in 2007.
You can likely remove those parts using a socket set. I was able to do everything on my miata using basic tools & a welder. I recommend draining the coolant before removing the radiator.
I guess the only thing you should be aware of is that there are quite a few one-off parts on your car. You may be missing many factory parts needed to put a factory style radiator back on.
What's wrong with using those HE-X parts the way they are? Is it not able to hold 120mph for an hour, the stated goal of the HE-X?

Lol, the way that is in the car right now, it can’t even stand 60mph for 30 minutes.
