Default Cams for turbo Miata with stock internals?

Hello so I am interested in getting more performance oriented cams, would there be any issues I could run into? And is it possible to safely gain some extra hp on top of the turbo with stock internals?

What power level are you at currently? Upping the boost a bit will be much cheaper and easier. Stock cams will support more than enough horsepower to bend a rod on stock internals.

good to know, I am at 8psi and 135hp, I spoke to a Maita enthusiast and he recommended to check my timing/ cam gears as I am in a weird spot where my car runs fine no issues just slow and not at the estimated hp for 8psi

Whoa, yeah that’s low for 8psi for sure. Cam timing would probably be the first thing I’d check, followed by a compression and leakdown test on the engine. Does your exhaust have a cat? A melted cat can cause a severe lack of power as well.

Not super familiar with the CXracing kit but would assume you’d be higher than 135 assuming a healthy engine and no abnormal restrictions in the system.

Yeah did a compression test before the turbo, don’t remember the exact numbers but nothing that worried me, I do have my cat 2.5” exhaust no muffler but getting a 3” straight pipe in a week or two. Did a boost leak test and found two spots, one was fixed, another was the throttle body gasket, which this is the 2nd time I have had to replace it and was kinda hoping to find a mls gasket but seems there’s only composite, but was told probably not enough of a leak to cause that much lack of power especially because I still target boost.
