Cool Future gains

Hello I’ve been reading around for a good while and finally decided to make an account! my Miata has been through a good amount of progress bought a 91’crashed didn’t realize it was rusted to **** so I bought a 93’ shell swapped basically everything over including some panels and ran it for 4 months or so before I finally pulled the trigger on a 1.8 94 motor 115k miles for $400, apparently it was already being ran turbod at 200 whp for around 2k miles (or so they say) my question is what little odds and ends should I get done to the motor before slapping it in my car I’m gonna replace water pump and belts and reseal the bottom end since it does leak some oil
anyways, any and all input is appreciated

Planning to go turbo in the future already gathering parts looking to be around that 200whp mark reliably, Anything I should add or change to make that while the engine is out?

Drill and tap the oil pan while the engine is out. Running the oil feed line from under the intake manifold while the engine is out also makes that job easier.

On a similar note, I'd inspect the coolant lines that run under the intake manifold and replace if they look old. They're easy to get to when the engine's out and a total pain otherwise.

The pan for my bp has already been drilled and tapped will definitely consider that route and plan for it when i run those lines Currently at a standstill just waiting on the conversion kit itself once i get that ill make sure to create a build thread

That's a good one will definitely make sure to inspect and replace if needed was gonna do a coolant reroute off the bat since the engine is out but $400 is so much money

Where are you seeing $400? Even the top shelf ones are <$300…

Boom.

Also in my humble opinion, for all things performance related 949 > FM

FM is generally the most expensive place to buy anything. Most items are available elsewhere for much less, FWIW. 949 or Supermiata or Goodwin Racing or I can't remember who else right now have better choices/prices. I avoid Fab9 because he often sends factory returned items to you as new and sometimes they are fucked up and he lies about it/doesn't stand behind it.

Yes to all of this. I think the FM product line is designed to be as plug’n’play as possible, and removes nearly any thinking or problem solving from the equation, but I think it ends up with a significantly more expensive and often functionally-compromised product, the steering rack mounted oil cooler comes to mind.

A reroute can be done very DIY for like $100 bucks if you’ve got some time and brain cells to rub together, there’s several DIY write ups out there, I think using Protege water outlets. But you should do your own research and figure out what you’re comfortable with.
