Default TSE 6758 manifold sadness

Two of my inconel studs snapped off in my trackspeed engineering manifold. Sad day.

Anyone have any info on whether a kraken would fit my needs?

Or, does anyone think its possible to remove inconel studs from deep in the manifold holes? Seems pretty hopeless.

What size are those studs? If m8 drill em and retap for m10. Kraken manifold is nice but you'll probably need the dp too

Drilling inconel out of that manifold is probably not a garage project. Drilling stainless hardware is already a pita, I can't image what drilling inconel is like.

Well. If I pay someone 1000 dollars to remove them, I will break even...

I expect a good machine shop can probably get them out. Carbide endmills or EDM or something.

Inconel work hardens very quickly. Proper tooling (carbide) and proper technique are critical. Not something for an inexperienced person to do.

For what its worth, we got a snapped Inconel stud out of our TSE manifold by filing it flat, center-punching, and using decent Milwaukee metal-drilling bits. Starting from very small (like the smallest bit in a 20-piece set) and working our way up until it was near the ID of the threads. Then we used a pick and some other small tools to get the rest out of the threads.

If you decide to keep the TSE manifold, add a support under the turbo. The Kraken will have the same loads and failure. The studs are intended only to clamp, not support the weight of turbo and DP.

I guess now the race is on to cast a manifold with a V-band flange.

I do wonder if M10 studs would hold better then M8 studs. I know fitting m10 on the EFR is hard though.

The hardware relief cuts (where the flange nut sits on the exhaust housing) is just big enough for most M8 flange nuts. I had to take some material off my titanium flange nuts to get them to fit the housing. If you upsized to M10 on an EFR, you'd have to find a machine shop that could increase the size the hardware relief.

This is a great chance to upgrade to m10 Inconel. I know a machine shop that can do it in NorCal. They did it on mine, fabulous job. It has held up for the last 20 hours.

Herse are the studs to buy:

M10 on an EFR? If so, do you mind showing pictures.

Edit: I see from you're thread you're using a Garrett turbo. M10's are easier to pull off on a Garret.

Thought it was the same flange. Can you do 3/8”?. That will provide improvement. The machinist who did my manifold can make some threaded studs in that size.

Same flange pattern, but the exhaust housing only has relief cuts large enough for M8 flange nuts. Even then, some don't fit. I have titanium flange nuts on my setup, and I had to take some material off the flange of them so they could sit in the reliefs properly. I'm not saying you can't add M10 to an EFR62xx, but it would require some work to both the manifold and the exhaust housing.

I for sure think its worth the effort. I had issues with my turbo coming loose for ages. I could not even get 1 track day. Since I went with true Inconel m10, I have done approx 10 track days with 0 issues, car gets 0 cooldown during session too. Not a lot but a 10:1 ratio talks. I would also tac weld the nuts...

I had 4 race weekends on my setup last year with no hardware issues, but I run turbo and down pipe braces. Since Kraken released their V-band, EWG manifold kit, I'm more likely to move that direction if I make a big change.

Kragen already has a cast manifold with a vband flange.
