It isnt much, but it surely helps. I don't know the acutal temp differential, but just by popping the hood after a drive I could feel a big difference. I had a turbo blanket on the turbine, but the downpipe was exposed. I went to home depot and got a sheet of thier flat 18"x12" 26g aluminum, cut a pattern, folded it and secured it with self tapping sheet metal screws. I then used the DEI reflective heat tape on the underside to help reflect the heat. I have more than 1" of clearance between the shield and the exhaust components. The shield is mounted to one of the existing OEM intake mounts, and it is also secured to the rear firewall with a real crappy looking brace. I will redo the brace if it looks to hold up ok. I already had the DEI tape, so I have 4.83 + tax and time invested.

 

Looks great, i'm sure it works just as good as any aluminum heat shield you can buy...

probably zinc - that's what all the shiny metal they sell there is. I have never seen alum, in lowes either

 

right- zinc'd steel sheet. If somebody repeats this, at least fold the sheet over so you've got two layers and an air gap in between for better shielding. Or better yet stick some of that plumbers solder shield in between the two sheets/layers.
