brake duct location

Default brake duct location

Hey all. I picked up another bumper skin for track days. That way I could loose the GV lip and use a home grown version...Oh and place proper NACA style brake ducts somewhere to help cool the brakes.
Below is two options. I read that closer to the center helps with the pressure blah blah blah... Out towards the sides would be slightly easier on logistics of ducting. but not enough to make the decision.




Anyways, I apologize for the crayon type coloring. but assume that the yellow part is the homegrown air damn. A's and B's are the two possible locations for brake intact ducts.

Any opinions..suggestions etc?

NACA ducts aren't designed to be useful as a head-on duct, they're more for pulling air in from a surface with air flowing over it. Just sayin'.

location B is my vote, simpler to route. Or, so long as aesthetics aren't a concern, you could cut the bumper itself.

You are going to have to excuse me. I had just been "PIT" manuevered 126 times in a row and was very tired when I wrote this.

They are not NACA ducts...they are these:

Oh and I have a spare bumper skin. using that instead of the air dam would keep the hoses up and out of the way more...hmm

I'm no physics major, but B seems to be the best option. Its give and take...
A- may be best for pressure- but routing becomes an issue and will hinder any other addition in that area for cooling.
B- hoses become shorter and more direct for flow to the rotors. Also frees up any space for additional ducting to the rad for further cooling.
I chose B - for my locations.

Hustler, all this great knowledge you have. Is your car done yet? If you aply 1/8th of your resources to its conception, it is going to be one hell of a machine....

I also like option B, but maybe use a large radius path to the brakes so that you recieve more air even if it is at a lower velocity

If you're running a stock height rad, the duct/hose will actually fit under the rad, between it and the undertray. I've done that on a few race cars and it worked fine.

/\ That's good to know.....I haven't had the undertray on since owning my second one (non existent from purchase).
I had forgotten what space was available there.

It will never be done because I'm never going home again. I added it up, and since January 1st, 2008, I've been home 5-weeks if you don't count the month I was home working 7/12's and couldn't get to the car. I won't get back home until January either.

I don't think it will be that outstanding...just on par with all the other trackable cars here. However, if it does end up that I get pointed by a $300k car...what mountain to I climb next?

Hustler you'll get plenty of point by's from high dollar cars. They'll all want to chase that sweet hiney of yours...

That and a lot of high dollar equipment is driven by guys who have no idea how to drive.

I'm thinking of doing ducts myself. I'd say the B position for absolutely no reason other than it's easier to do. The more difficult a project is the less likely it will ever get done!
