Just wondering If anyone is running Ebay coilovers???? I know they suck, but how bad do they suck for a non-track car?

 

which coil overs are you talking about? like the wanna be ground control sleve+spring?

 

bad. I had them on my daily, it was bad enough to beg ricers to trade me for stock ****.

 

One of th local DC guys runs them on his autocross car, his name is Moxnix on .net. He has had pretty good results and almost convinced me to get some. Had I not gotten some ground controls used for a steal I would have tried them out.

 

I had them for awhile. stupid stiff, but unknown rates. Made it great for getting sideways but thats about it.

 

Search around on Miata.net.

Consensus is that the sleeves and collars are ok but the springs are crap.

 

the perches / collars may be fine, but figure out which shocks you can use them with. If you're not going for tein, ohlins, or whatever in that price range, you should decide if you want koni or bilstein, because any other shock isn't worth the cash. I have bilstein, but with I had gone with koni after logging enough track time to realize that I could use the adjustability. I may sell them in the next few months if your interested because I'm going to the high-end **** if I can't make the same #'s on the accelerometer as johnwag.

 

Konis do seem to have a very vocal fan club, but research on m.net indicates that Tokico Illuminas are considered by many to be at least as good (if not better).

I think we can all agree that Shaikh @ FatCat knows what he's talking about?

maybe I should take the illuminas off my daily and put them on the turbo car. I bought the bilsteins because I knew they would last forever. We'll see what they do on the track, they make make the cut.


As for the thread in question, why not just get perches and buy 2.5" springs in the rates you want? There is a trade-ring on some honda site, but I can't seem to find the link on this computer.

 

I've got the eBay sleeves. I'm running the rear springs that were spec'd at 300# up front and then picked up a pair of 250# springs for the rear from summit (for less than eibach/h&r). I'm running them on R bilsteins and what I did notice is that the sleeves fit loosely on the rear bilsteins. Doesn't matter which ones. And this excessive tolerance is what causes the sleeves to split, so I sat them on the OE bilstein perches, until I can get a larger diameter seat ring. Haven't tracked the car, just DD.

I like how fatcat has a link to his revalved spec miata shocks. I bet there's a good bit of demand there.

R miata springs are perfect for the street IMO. That's what I was running and should've left them in BUT got in my head that I had to go with coil overs to make up for the increase front weight from the engine swap. I would have been better off just buying some used performance coils from somebody who went to coilovers.

 

Just go bitch slap a drug dealer and grab his cash. That's how you roll, ain't it? Life is too short to be running non-awesome dampers.

 

The wife's car came with a set... I wouldn't recommend them. The bottom of the sleeves is belled out and 1-2 of them are starting to crack below the collar. If my digital camera wasn't destroyed by our cat over xmas I'd post some pics. I cannot recommend them.

 

I think 300/220 (or 250) springs with the R Bilsteins is a step up for street driving. The R Bilsteins need a bit more spring than the R springs to calm them down a bit, in my opinion.

 

But for the $45 that they cost, you can buy 5-6 sets before you're at the cost of a set of GC sleeves. :-)

 

That is, if you like the idea of redoing your suspension over and over again with shitty parts vs. doing it right the first time.

 

for the price compared to everything else, For a non tracked car I cant see them being that bad wont have much stress from hard cornering etc..
