WTB: Supercharger Kit
I'm looking for either a mp62 or m45 supercharger kit. Let me know what you have. PM is prefered form of communication
Thanks,
Brian S.
Edit: taking the advice of cody strife and patsmx-5 as well as additional research i'm no longer interested in the m45 kit.

I'm just kidding with you dude, I have had two supercharged Miatas' and soon to be Two Turbo Miatas. Send me a message and i'll be glad to tell you more.
I can already tell you though, you would be better off with the M62 supercharger in a six-rib format. If you get a jackson racing M45 supercharger, be sure it has a moss 2nd gen tensioner, TDR tensioner, or BRP tensioner, as the 1st gen moss tensioners are pathetic. Also I prefer the rotomolded intake pieces, they just work better. Third, be sure you deal with an owner who is sincere on the mileage, as failing rotor bearings or pulley bearings will cause the coupler to disintegrate due to friction and heat, as well as lead to belt squeeling and failure of the supercharger. Best get one that has been placed under warranty, cause you don't want to spend 500 dollars like I did getting one rebuilt as soon as you bought it.
As for drivability. I loved the supercharger. Great sound, great response, just fun for a street car!

Yeah, they are a pain in the ***, with all sorts of issues with belts and idle stability, but I want 180-200whp, and a flatter torque curve.
Granted I could get very similar results going with a gt2554 but I want to try it this way.
Cody, thanks for the pointers
The more I look around the more I want the MP62 over the m45, it seems to be the better built and obviously better performing piece.
I was planning on getting the TDR tensioner no matter what. I was also planning on fabbing an intercooler setup similar to the TDR setup as well. I was thinking of water injection too, but I think it may be overkill at 8psi.
This is mainly my daily driver but I do auto-x and run track days rather frequently.

The biggest problem with belt squeel out of the M45 isn't necessary the design but two other factors. Use a straightedge when aligning the supercharger pulley with the powersteering pulley Second, if the rotor bearings are bad, pulley bearings are bad, or nose bearings are shot, then the belt will probably squeel anyway due to resistance. The Jackson Racing supercharger is nice little efficient supercharger if your intentions are set around 6 psi. Anything more and it is from my experience that the outlet temps are just to hot if you spin the supercharger to make a couple more pounds of boost. Then you gotta resort to intercooling (more money) and then by the time you've spent your last penny, you still don't have 200 rwhp.
So I think you will be better of with the Mp62 six-rib design. It features a larger 62 cubic inch rotor housing and is more efficient at higher horsepower than your M45 would be on the 1.8 liter engines. For example, 178 rwhp is pushing it for the little M45. But 170 horsepower is were you start on most M62 setups, and if you decide to do addition fuel management like Hydra or Megasquirt, as well as a TDR Air-to-Air intercooler, then with the right pulleys, you'll be looking at 220-230 rwhp. That's boogying for a mainstream supercharged Miata.

If you have to get a SC, get a MP62. You'll spend more getting 170whp out of a MP45 than you will getting 200whp out of a MP62. And the MP62 is 6 rib, will spin slower and last longer, etc etc etc.

Thanks for the advice guys. I modified my post to reflect your input.
Mods, I just noticed I posted this in the For Sale forum instead of the Wanted To Buy forum. Sorry, can you move it to the appropriate subforum.

Yeah, I talked to the guy from Georgia today, he is reluctant to ship and only wants to accept a check as payment. It is the only 1.8l kit listed and is a m45. After some more research and advice I think the MP62 is more suited to what I need.
Thanks for the heads up though.

Lol, thanks for the heads up but I had bought a MP62 kit, ran it until around november '10 when sold it because it was such a pain in the ***. Running NA for now I wish I had heeded the above advice and gone with a turbo from the beginning.
