So, I recently purchased the rods from the m-tuned group buy and received them earlier this week. When I got them, I was a bit surprised to see that they decided to use ARP rod "screws" vs studs like the OEM rods. The hardware that I got with these rods are ARP 2000 rod "screws" that do not use a nut, they just thread right into the rod. Now, with my limited background, I have seen people replace head bolts with studs/nuts and the same with main bolts, rod bolts, etc. Seeing this, once I received the hardware that they sent me, I was a little put off by it. Does anyone know why they chose to use these "screws" vs actual studs?

 

Yes I do.The stud loads The nut in compresion causing the threads inside the nut to fail.The screw is one piece and does the same thing to the rod just with 3x the thread engagement,stronger.Been doing it to v-8 's for years.

rod bolts are used by lots and lots of cars with no problems. That's what thread locker is for.

 

I have not seen an aftermarket rod use a stud/nut since I have been in this industry which is about 15 years. Bolts are the way to go when looking for strong hardware. ARP 2000s are used in most 800+hp builds for V*s and High HP 4 bangers.
