A few local guys are trying to get me on the Nology hotwires set with the built in capacitors. Telling me that they're better than the COPs. Easier to install and better performance... Any comments?

They sell electric superchargers on ebay too. They also say they're "better than turbo". You believe that too?

They are not COPs. How are they better?. Anyone stupid enough to pay 170 for fancy spark plug wires is out of their mind.

 

I've seen COP kits going for $300 plus. I'm just trying to find a better solution at a cheaper price. It's like $90 for new wires in the first place.

No the **** they are not $90. Where are you shopping? A set is $40 right here.


That's why you build your own! You buy a spare coil pack (working or not) to hack the connectors off (if you have a 94-97). Or just hack up your own coil pack if you can handle the car being down for a day and don't plan to go back to stock coils. Then buy a set of COPs with pigtails, a capacitor, and wire it up following the how-to. I have about $120 in my setup and a few hours of my spare time with a cutoff wheel, dremel, and soldering iron. The biggest PITA is dremeling out the epoxy from the coil connectors so you can solder to the pins.

BTW for a stock ignition system I think the only non-stock plug wires I would buy would be Taylors. They're about $70 IIRC. A bunch of the local SM guys run them, and one claims they gave him an extra ~2 whp in back-to-back testing on the dyno.

 

I also have just over $100 in my COPS setup.

It took an afternoon...and was much easier than I anticipated.

 

I'm all for that. If I can find a cheaper solution/alternative to something I'm always down to save a penny. In this case its bullshit though. You can spend 170 on this crap, or put together your own set of REAL COPs for a bit over 100. Doesn't get much better than that.

 

No bullshit in this forum haha. Thanks for keeping it real. When I get the DIYPNP in the car and get things straight I'm going to look into my own COP setup. Its just intimidating to me for some reason. Shouldn't be since I've been doing things on my own.

 

Once you print out the write-up and cross out all the **** you don't need to pay attention to...it's very easy.

I mean like easy as in "wiring up a head unit" easy.
