Anybody played around with this?

I guess nobody has messed with this so I think I'll give it a try. Any suggestions on how many degrees of spark I can take out of the lower gears without hurting anything? Going to try and use this to get some traction in first and second gear.

First, the manual says that you need to have your gear-vss data correct.

I'm not sure how many degrees to take out. Note that if you retard before 4000 you may possibly spool more quickly. I don't know if you would have to add extra fuel to really see noticable spool gains but all that hot mixture in the exhaust manifold would probably help. I would think that the only danger would be too much retard and seeing an EGT hot enough to start breaking or melting things.

BTW look into 2.6 or possibly 2.7 when it comes out. Everyone including me bitched about 2.6's new interface and it took me a while to get used to it but there are a bunch of good new features and like any UI you'll learn to make your way around it. See this page form the 2.6 manual-- you can trim spark and fuel via this map. Can also limit traction control to a specific manifold pressure range.

All my gear-vss data is correct. I will be upgrading when 2.7 comes out, but for now I'm stuck with 2.5. For my version I believe that it won't allow me to choose an rpm or load level for this to happen at, just which gear. That's my big concern at the moment. I plan on setting up my spark map so that in 1st and 2nd I'm taking away 3*, in 3rd and 4th would be no change, and finally in 5th and 6th it would add 2*.

Hmm so at 350hp or so that would be a cut of something like 15hp mebbe?

Think of it like this. Your car is tuned in 5th gear (6 speed) and at close to mbt. In 1st and second gear that would be a difference of 5 degrees less timing than 5th gear. This should equate to over 15whp.

What are your VSS settings?

Under setup1, vss & gear ratios and VSS input cal, the max value of 255 still has my wheel speed about 10x too low. What about your VSS / rpm ratio target?

I'm no longer running a Hydra so I don't know what settings I was using.
