Default Moving torsen

Hi all. Have a quick question, I am moving my original 94 equipped torsen into new carrier from 97 open diff miata. Do I do anything special with alinig my diff with new carrier? Do I need to set the backlack or not?

Thanks,
Max

If you can mic the carrier ring gear mounting area and its exactly the same you probably won't...but that's an expensive, painful recipe that probably won't end well. My buddy who installed mine put it in spec then adjusted a little bit by feel because he's cool like that.

Setting up a diff really is not that hard. Some measuring tools and some brains and you should be able to DIY.

Unless you are saying that you are putting the entire pumpkin into the 97 aluminum carrier... then you will only need to make sure the rtv is done correctly. As long as you are not disassembling the pumpkin, there would be no concern.

To clarify, you are trying to replace the aluminum carrier which has cracked due to damage, right? The aluminum carrier is the piece which contains the differential bushings/mounts (to rear subframe) and the oil drain and fill plugs.

Picture here:

If you are replacing just this piece then you DO NOT need to adjust anything in the differential, since nothing has been moved. Just make sure the seal is adequate to keep the oil inside. Last time I used a silicone sealant along the edge where it bolts together.

That's correct. Just moving pumpking assembly from one carrier to another. So, you think I am ok DIY just by swaping the carriers?

Yes, you are OK DIYing this job. You are not changing anything with the differential itself, the carrier acts as a cover and mounting point for the diff. All the settings for the gear lash remain the same.
