Damn, I think I might have it installed the incorrect way, but does anybody have any pictures showing the proper installation of a head gasket on a 99-2000 motor. I know there is one particular coolant channel that will get blocked off if it is installed incorrectly.

There's one particular OIL channel that will get blocked off. Namely the one supplying oil to the head.

This is an '01, but the oil hole is in the same location. I've circled the diagonal slot in the HG that matches up with it.

It's exactly the same.

On that note, I just installed an MLS head gasket in a '93 and you cannot **** that one up if you try. Only the 1.8s.

Oil feed/hole looks exactly the same on the 1.6 though. It's how I've always lined it up, but apparently there are other holes that would be misaligned if it were backwards? Never cared to check. The one time I'd try it to see, is the time I'd accidentally leave it that way.

Many pictures here: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=350182

Note that these are viewed as though you are looking at the head, upside-down on a bench.

If there is any printed material or stamps on the gasket, they go up facing the cylinder head.

You can't **** it up unless you're paying absolutely no attention to what you are doing.
