Default "no port open" error in WARI

So tonight I was trying to connect to the ECU using the same hardware I have always used. Same software versions as well. I was getting a "No port open" error message in the load box in WARI, the small window that pops up when WARI is initially opened. It was doing the same thing in an old version and the newest version of WARI.

I tried all of the usual stuff, that is, unplug and replug the USB connector, power cycle the Adaptronic, reboot the PC, uninstall and reinstall the USB driver, no results. When I try switching to other COM ports I get the "No ECU connected" message, then back to the "No Port Open" message when I switch back to the correct COM port. I am using a USB-serial adapter that has always worked fine before.

I RTFMed, searched here and at the Adaptronic site, and did not find anything. Anyone seen this error message before? I am posting the same question in the Adaptronic web site forum.

I think I had that problem when I accidentally opened it twice.

I had that happen. I switched the port # (to 2 from 9) in the windows device manager and then closed wari and told it which port to use when I opened it back up.

Make sure you've selected the correct COM port. Windows sometimes switches between two for my USB-Serial adapter....no idea why.

Serial adapters are the enemy, just hunt through the com ports and until you find the right one. Let me know if you don't get it resolved.

Thanks for the input.

Last night I tried going into device manager and checking the COM port assignment, and switching it accordingly in WARI. That did not work either. I suspect the problem may be with the com port adapter. It may have decided to start being flaky so I may try another one.

I had the same issue one day. I realized I was putting the serial adapter in a usb port that I usually don't use. I put it back in the port I normally use and it fixed the issue.

Yes I have seen that too. I had also tried switching back and forth between two different USB ports (only two on the PC I am using) and that did not work either.

Bought a new USB adapter the same as the one I had before and tried it again last night. The "no port open" error went away, and I checked the COM port selection, but now I cannot get it to see the ECU. All I get is a 'No ECU Connected' message. I hope to do some more troubleshooting tonight.

OK well I do not know WTF was going on but now it is working fine, and I really did not change anything. WARI communicates with the ECU, loads maps, etc. Car idles.

I am quite relieved. For a minute there I was in fear that the lightning strike had fried the Adaptronic.

I thought my ecu had died once. Wiggled the adapter harness and it turned right back on. I am going to pull out the harness one of these days and check it. I also have a grounding issue I am working on fixing, so my problem might be related to that too.
Either way, it has only done it once
