Default Diff go boom

Went to the track after getting launch control setup.. I had 12 pounds of boost from 2700rpm launch control on 255 stickies. It hooked soo good for the few milli-seconds it did. I made it to like the 60 foot mark..

So.. Stock 1.6 vlsd can't hold 18 psi on a Evo3 16g I thought it was my 1st gear, but figured out it was the diff.

For a 1.8 Torsen swap, do I need axles/driveshaft? What else? My rear is completely stock for all I know and I'd rather go ahead and fork out the money for something that will hold 350ishwhp.. because that's my goal.

thanks.

Found a Torsen for 650, has half shafts, driveshaft, and a Type l Torsen. Hopefully picking it up tomorrow.

That's a pretty good deal...although I've heard the TorSens don't hold up to drag launches. May look at an open swap to get it going and put a clutch type in it later. Open 7" 1.8L unit still needs the driveshaft and halfshafts to do the swap, but is cheaper. You can usually pick up the RX7 clutch type LSDs for about $150 and get a local shop to install it properly.

So far my torsen is holding up to drag abuse (4500rpm launch with 4psi, but only 205 drag radials). I don't expect it to last however though, and am thinking about trying out the OBX LSD.

Hopefully, I'm probably going to go with a 7.5 Ford Rear when I can afford it. TorSen will be quick, and hold my power. It's the only one semi-local to me, and I really need my car back up.

Next time I go to the track I'll just roll off the line slowly, because all I wanted was a damn trap!

I have to ask...

What did you honestly think would happen when you did that?

Wellll, I honestly wanted to try it to see what would happen.

My luck got even worse, my rear window zipper is broken and it's flash flooding.

I'll be pulling it out in a few hours so I'll get some pics of the carnage, drove 6 hours to go pick up a torsen last night.

I have heard good things about the OBX LSD from some rsx type-s owners as long as you pull it apart dremel and reassemble. Good enough for 300+whp launches.

I'll try to get some later.

There is about a inch section of the axle still in the hub, the hubs were just laying in the boot. Both of them are the same..

Yep, still haven't been able to get the snapped off part out of the hub either otherwise I'd have pictures. It snapped off right where the C-Clip goes..

I was starting to get on it, but the turbo was only at about 3-4psi when it happened.

If your doing the 7.5 ford rear, just do it now. It will be around the same price as the torsen and will get you a taller gear to work with (and a clutch pack diff). Martin is supposed to be pretty quick about getting everything out to people.

So what is it that breaks on the 1.6 rears? Are the axles not big enough or just the small carrier flexs and breaks the housing?
