What's the typical cost for shipping a transmission? I've had a couple shipped in the past and have always paid between $60-80 each time to get it from coast to coast. Here we are today, I had a vendor give me a shipping quote for a transmission and I damn near dropped the phone. Did I just get lucky in the past or is $300 the current going rate for something like this nowadays?

 

I paid $120 a couple years ago for a VW trans for Californica to DFW.

 

I shipped one a couple of months ago via UPS for less than $80 IIRC.

It just makes it under their weight limit IIRC. Be sure to bag it in a really thick garbage bag so it does not leak oil out into the box. No matter what there will be some oil left in it and if it leaks it could delay delivery.

 

Looks like it's cheaper to just rebuild what I have than to buy another one.

I paid $35 to get a gearbox from ND to WI, ship by Speedy.

We put T56's in a big rubbermaid after filling them with peanuts.

To make sure nothing leaks, wrap the trans in an old blanket, then use a big trash bag. Between those, the peanuts, and the rubbermaid, you shouldn't have an issue as long as you drained most the fluid.

It normally cost 80-100 to ship using UPS or Fedex at around 135 pounds IIRC

 

I think I paid about $80 to ship a 6 speed from MD to Rotornut on this board. Can't remember if it was USPS or UPS though. I got a big box from Uline and double boxed it.
