Well reddish orange and it is a dark shade. Reminds me of **** and blood mixed.

I discovered it when I was pulling the fuel system apart to install my aeromotive; I pumped fuel through the fuel system for about 20 seconds to make sure the system was clean/clear (the fuel that came out of the system came out gas color and I was taking it from the fuel rail outlet) before putting everything together and when I pulled the hoses off the fuel rail it poured out reddish orange (pretty close to the color of atf). Pertinent info:

New gas (3 gallons)
used walbro 190hp
used m-tuned dual feed rail

Anybody know why it would be changing color?

Could be some rust in the tank I guess. Is the fuel filter now crudded up too?

It'd be green, blue, or purple at an airport. Sounds like rust to me. Or you got some lawnmower gas.

No, but avgas 80 is dyed red. Pretty rare in the states, but I think it's still available over in Europe, which is where I assume the OP lives based on his use of the term "petrol".

It isn't diesel, the station down the road only pedals regular gas. Perhaps I should give the filter another look. It is a new filter though.

Just because a particular gas station doesn't sell diesel or off road diesel that is dyed red doesn't negate the possibility that the tanker driver that did the "drop" at that location last, didn't "drop" the wrong compartment that was intended to go to a different location. The gas hauling service nor the store is gonna want to deal with this by letting anyone know about it. While this doesn't happen often, it happens, and it really messes **** up when it does.

While it is possible I looked at the fuel (and smelled) as I upt it in...mainly because it was leaking out of the can a tad.


Could my ****/gas be contaminated from one of the previous owners of the various fuel parts (e85/fuel additives)?

Did you fill the car up recently while very low on gas? I'd check out the fuel filter, see what you can see.

 

Sounds like home heating going got mixed in the gas!!! This wouldn't surprise me as a week ago there was the whole sea water in the gas up and down I95 in CT.

 

Actually you're right. I brain farted and hoped no one would catch it. The training squadron I'm in is an "air force" squadron, and the T-6 came from the AF first, so we learn a few Airforce-isms a long the way. I was looking at my NATOPS manual with the specific weight of each fuel when I typed that and jp4/8 was the last thing I read.
