Default laser 1.8 mated to miata tranny possble?

So from what i read the 1.8 ford laser engine is closely related to the 1.8l miata engine. My question is will it mount up to the miata tranny? I was out at a junkyard looking to steal a td05-16g from something and saw a couple lasers there and it just kind of popped into my mind. Also could i use miata cams, pistons etc to build it up in the future? I know the lasers motor makes less than the miatas engine but I figure its just a detuned version of the 1.8l miata.

It's a BP, so yeah, theoretically.

Your username is unfortunate.

Should bolt right up, assuming it's a BP as well. The block/crank in the black car were sourced from a '97 Kia Sephia.

(Side note: That motor has driver's side oil/coolant ports and a damn MBSP. In 1997. WTF, Mazda.)

Mazda was thinking, what are we going to do with all these 20-year old tech engines we have laying around??? "Keep throwing them in Miatas".
