Default Blow Off Valve question

I just dropped an engine in and put everything back together. I just realized my Turbo XS (not sure if knock off or the real deal) blows air at idle. Is this normal? I know people talk about swapping springs, but I want to know what's normal.

I heard with smaller turbos, it's normal for air to blow off at idle. Car seems to hold boost just fine and sits right at 12psi in full boost. Just want to make sure I'm not harming the turbo or motor.

You're not harming anything. But its usually a good idea to have it closed so you have a more consistent idle.

You can just shim it like all the other txs rfl users

My egay RFLBOV always clanks shut when I use the throttle. I also have a big hesitation off-idle. Wonder if the two are connected.

Maybe I should tune it like my IAC.

How do you go about 'shimming' it?

Pretty much exactly how it sounds. Find some washers that fit in there and use stack them inside the body so that the spring provides more tension on the valve.
