Default NA - largest Intercooler for "over rad" setup ?

Before you tell me to search, I have..ive spent a solid hour searching and looking at pics on this forum. and cant find want im looking for

for those with NAs and over the rad setups that go through the 2 holes in the rad support. How large are the ICs that youre using ? Im looking to make close to 250whp and beable to handle track use

Been looking at this one
cxracing.com: Turbo Intercooler 24"x11"x3", 3" Core: 18"x11"x3", 2.5" Inlet & Outlet One Side For RX7 V-Mount

But fear 24" width might be a little much. Keep in mind that I dont have AC so that should help make things alot easier

The starion intercooler is THE perfect size (width) for those holes, if that helps.

If only it came with larger inlets, thicker core, and shiny.

That's the CX intercooler I used for my set up:

To give you an idea of fitment, the inlet/outlets align closely to the rubber hood bumpers on core support,i.e. - the intercooler is nearly the width of the core support. I can't imagine you'd want/need anything much larger on a miata - it fits quite nicely.

My only complaint is it's a heavy POS. It will do the job and it was cheap, however, in the long term I'll probably have someone fab a 'cooler with sheet metal end tanks.

Also note, I went this route after using a Starion - I wouldn't bother with a Starion intercooler these days, though it is lighter (and probably more efficient).

I havent had my front bumper cover off yet to really look. But would there be enough room to do something like a 27x6x3 IC with side inlet/outlets and do a few 90s to do an over the rad piping setups ?

Ive tried that, with cut down 90* couplers, and they were still a little pinched. Not sure what size you listed, I'm horrible with intercooler sizes. But it's probably what I used, and like I said, pinched. And that was with a bunch of cutting too.

I looked through my receipts with no luck.

The set up is just 2 2" 'long leg' 90 degree couplers with a 30 degree 2" to 2.5" transition coupler (?... whatever the TB OD is). The 90 degree and 30 degree silicone couplers are held together with a Gates heat shrink 'clamp' of M-Carr (which why it looks like one continuous hose). I had 2" couplers welded to the intercooler for space reasons (the intercooler comes from CX with 2.5").

There's 5 clamps total including the gates heat shrunk one.
