Hey, I have a new problem with my miata 1995.

Since yesterday, when I let the gas go with the clutch engage, there is a bearing / turning sound coming from the transmission / clutch / driveshaft

The moment the sound appears, if I press the clutch pedal, the sound go away.
It sound like a bad bearing from somewhere outside, under the car.

New video guys ! The sound can now be heard WITHOUT the clutch engage.

So it cannot be the throwout bearing and the pilot bearing.

Here is a video from this morning, the sound is very bad at some point.

Cant watch the video where im at, but if it goes away when you push in the clutch, its probably your throwout bearing

 

Before you go too far, grease the point where the slave contacts the fork.

 

Second vote for bad throwout bearing.

Wow, are your knuckles ok after filming that?

It sounds like brakes to me, does it get faster with speed?

But if you're convinced it's the driveline, it's either the pilot bearing or something in the differential. I wouldn't think it's the throw out bearing. As soon as they go bad they like to explode in my experience, and you're left with nothing to release the clutch, which would obviously have other symptoms.

The pilot also reverberates inside the transmission bell housing and sounds pretty deep Your sound seems like its coming directly from the source, which is why I'm suggesting brakes.

Can you refilm with a few semi-firm brake applications?

 

Haha yes my hand is ok !! I don't think it's the pilot bearing, like a said , the sound doesn't go away when I push the clutch pedal.

When I accelerate, There is no sound. But when i let the car go and it slows down, the sound starts .
I my video , I was not braking !

 

See if it changes while braking. I just sounds like pad squealers.

 

Very weird ... the sound went away for 5 minutes and it started all over again.
And when I push the clutch pedal, the sound disappear. ... So again, I'm back with my first problem ... -__-

 

I still think it's the throwout bearing.

 

Also, this is way out in left field, but my car made that same sound for a while.... took FOREVER to figure out what it was. Sometimes it would be while Decelerating, sometimes while Accelerating, sometimes only when turning, and sometimes while driving slowly on flat straight road.

come to find out, my Aluminum lugnuts didnt seat in the lug wells on my wheels well enough, causing them to come loose, and while driving, the wheel was wobbling.
Sometimes it would click (i think the rim rubbing on the threads) but MOST of the time it would make the sound yours is making in the video. The wheel was so off center, that the rotor was wobbling and rubbing the caliper/pad.

Thats the dumbest thing to ever happen to my car... Easy fix though if thats what it is...

 

NEW UPDATE !

I removed my mufller tip ( It was doing a little rattle sound)

I also shot WD40 on all the U-Joint and the connection between the driveshaft and differential and the sound is no more there !!!

So I think I found my problem. Probably worn U-Joint or my muffle tip (which make no sens haha).

The clutch was changed last year so I was septic about the throw out bearing because I'm pretty sure it was changed

 

Could it be the differential pinion bearing ????

The sound has started and I only sprayed wd40 on the U-JOINT and the sound was still there. I sprayed on the differential pinion shaft and the sound was 70% less.

 

Sounds like a bad ujoint if I have ever heard one, in theory the pinion seal should be stopping the wd from getting to the bearing. From the squeeking sound I would bet its in the ujoint

 

UPDATED , I think I found the problem.
Few weeks ago, I went under the car and I found out that one of the 3 bolt from the PPF was missing where the transmission go. So I install a new one. I read on the forum that the ppf can be not aligned properly so I went under and I raised the transmission a few mm.

There is no more sound for now. I only drove it 2-3 miles so lets hope it will not come back.
