Default Picked up a motor to build, parts? book?

I've always wanted to build a motor but never have.

When racing FC, we ran a built/ dry sumped Ford Pinto motor- and if you wanted a chance of winning you did not build it yourself. There were two major builders (Elite and Quicksilver) and a handful of smaller builders but to get everything out of the motor it took a pro (plus annual rebulids and 2x a year head freshining). The headwork was the major difference. Components were spec.

So now I've got a spare 03 VVT motor, and since I'm not racing and the last 2hp does not matter I'd like to give it a go. It will be built for 275-300hp with a 2860RS, MS3, ID1000 and reliable operation. I've got an engine that runs great now (78k) so MS3 going in this weekend, tuning n/a then bolting up the FI after. I'm not pressed for time.

Is there a book available that specifically covers building the Miata 1.8?

What about recommended components? Lots of choices for pistons, rods, bearings, bore, etc.

Go look at what TSE uses to build their motors, then follow it exactly.

I can put together a component package and sell it at a small discount from retail to save you the hassle and a little money as well. Call me at the shop or email me.

Perfect, thanks. I'm planning to disassemble this weekend (or next week anyway) and check out the condition of the block to determine if bore out is going to be required.

Is there a book out there?

Either the Haynes or Chilton Miata manuals have a detailed overhaul chapter. I can't remember which one I have.

The engine overhaul .pdf is specifically for VVT motors

You're welcome
