I have an 1,6 NA engine. Installed the begi S3 turbokit with walbro fuel pump,OEM fuelrail and RX8 450cc denso injectors on a MS2

After installing this, I heard a annoying ticking. The noise is coming thru the floor on the passengers side. It drives me nuts...
I want to get rid of the noise inside the car

All injectors are working simultaneous and are producing the normal operating tick.
BUT: this tick is amplified by the fuel rail and follows the fuel lines. I can even hear the tick at the fuel filter which is also new.

What is the solution for this problem? other rail, fuel pressure damper, fuel pressure regulator?

Put an earplug in your vagina and move on? I noticed the same thing when I put in my RX8 yellows, they're definitely louder than the stockers.

I know they make a typical ticking noise and this is the normal operating sound.

The problem is the loud ticking noise inside the car. I have compared this with 3 other cars with the same engine and injecors, also turbo modified. In the other cars, I've noticed the same tick noise, but barely hearable inside.

Mine is ticking loud inside (like a hydraulic lifter loud)
Again, engine is in perfect shape, no leaks, no HLA problems, oil new, rods ok
I can hear clearly the same tick at the injectors, fuel rail and even on the fuel lines under the car with my stethoscope.
So, I'm sure that I found the cause of the noise, but I don't know how to fix this

When you're listening in and around the engine bay, it's almost not hearable...

 

If those injectors are that much louder than the other cars with the same injectors that youve heard, i doubt they will last much longer. They are noisy, but shouldnt be THAT noisy. I would say, replace them, OR the sound is coming from something else. I cant imagine a tick being loud enough to follow a fuel line back. OR... you have an opening in the firewall somewhere that the sound is coming through. Check the port behind the glovebox that goes through the firewall. There should be a rubber plug or something there

 

Injectors are new, plug is installed

the injectors are not louder than the compared ones (which were also quite new). Only the sound inside is MUCH louder.

inside the car it sounds like a minor nock (like the begin of a bad rod bearing)
the injector tick is amplified and sounds thru the chassis, best hearable on the floor at the passengers site. (where the fuel lines are running under the car)

I know, this is almost unbelievable, but I can't describe it better than i did..

No exhaust leak? i know those can tick sometimes. And, each pulse of the exhaust goes in accordance to an injector firing. Thats really weird...

 

no, everything is fine and checked double. downpipe, gaskets and cat-back is new...(and fitted properly)

But it was good thinking

 

after further diagnose it seems to be the Walbro fuel pump or the OEM FPR who can't handle the high pressure.

When I pinch of the fuel supply to the rail with a plier , the noise goes away.
The fuel pump is a walbro 255. I've installed the OEM fuel pump back and the noise was gone...

So fuel pressure is to high for OEM FPR? anybody wih the same experience? solutions?

While I am no expert, In this thread it appears to be common knowledge that the 255 is too much for the OEM FPR

 

It seems for some the 255 will overpower the stock FPR, others not so much. I have a 255 on my car and so far so good with the stock FPR, but i'm well aware it COULD be an issue and will be keeping my eye on things

the 190 is commonly accepted as being fine with the OEM fpr. Although if your FPR is weak it may still be an issue.

 

Would I choose the Walbro 190 or the 190HP for use with a MS2 without a fuel pressure raiser?

I have an OEM fuel pressure regulator in my spare parts box. But only want to install this one, after placing the more friendly fuel pump.

The regular 190 should be good if you are using MS and a stock FPR. The 190HP was only required for band-aid setups back in the day that required insane amounts of fuel pressure to effectively make small injectors flow more.

 

OK, now I know what pump to buy

I've noticed that almost all vendors are selling the 190HP version.

 

190HP should be fine as well though, it just has more head room for higher pressures if needed. Should be fine running the HP at stock pressures as well.
