Any interested in "leaf style" sway bars?
This is form a friend of mine at the local miata club who is heavy into autocross:
Anyone have any thoughts on this? I hear there is the ability to adjust them from in the cabin (for extra cost of course) and you can get them with special bushings, ball bearing perhaps?
If we get more than a handful of people interested I am sure he will register here. His Miata is N/A and I don't believe he plans on adding turbo or supercharger anytime soon so most of what we do here is irrelevant. Just passing this on since we have quite a few people here that are serious racers.
I'm looking into getting a custom blade-type sway bar for my NB Miata (I believe it will also fit on the NA). It's what a lot of high end race teams use because they are extremely quick to adjust and can have a wide range of adjustment.
Since it will be a dual blade, and not mass produced, it will be pricy, but the more they make, the cheaper it will be.
Here's an example of a single blade bar that someone makes for a different car. It should give you an ideas as to how pricy they can be.

The "blade" piece on the one side allows for adjustable stiffness "on the fly".
a thin metal bar thats horizontal will flex up and down very easily, but not side to side. If you put the same medal bar "vertical" it will flex side to side but not up and down.
You can rotate the "leaf" anywhere from fully horizontal to fully vertical, and anywhere in between, effectively giving you infinite flexibility adjustment in your swaybar, and you can do it just by loosening one small lock screw, then turning the 'leaf' and then locking it down.
Personally, I'm not interested, but figured I'd explain.

there maybe rules restrictions in some classes related to multi-piece sway bars, which is probably why you don't see them much (other than price tag too).
Lastly, at that price per sway bar (he said get an idea of price...) its seems entirely way too expensive for anything but a sponsored car.

Whats it going to be ~$1200 for the bar? Thats about what a Gendron bar costs if you go blade type, and Gendron bars are what all the national level S2Ks run when cone dodging (not necessarily blade type).
I cant think of any rules restriction on multi piece bars, unless its a NASA thing. Just remember than any of you with a welder can always DIY a splined quick change speedway bar for not much more than a new RB bar costs.

I do know that driver adjustable suspension components are an additional points mod in NASA.
