Default Anybody know much about r85 coating?

Just found out the bearing that is failing in my transmission was coated with something similar to r85.

i was not able to find any information on this coating other than some rifles had barrels coated with r85.

i am curious if the coating could have contributed to the bearing failure.

Is it a coating or a hardness rating?

I believe they meant RF85. It's not really a coating, but a polishing process to reduce friction. It sounds similar to REM finishing, which I have done on transmission gears before (not Miata though). I doubt that would have contributed to the failure.

Oh thanks, so how would they polish a bearing?
