hi guys I just want to get an advice on this. I just had a vvt engine rebuilt top and bottom and started up. The rings has not been broken in yet so the majority of it has been from idle. I just drained the oil and it seems like the magnetic drain plug has picked up quite a bit of metal. What do you guys think? The car has done about 45 minutes of idling. At one point the engine was idling at around 1500-2000 rpm.
its my understanding that a brand new engine/rebuilt engine will have metal debris during break in period. and is why an early oil change is recommended after a few hundred miles to dump all that metal out.
I just rebuilt my engine, so we will see in a few weeks how my oil looks like.
I personally think you should get into the boost and the vacuum as soon as the car is running, so the rings seat properly. I generally try to avoid high RPM though.
I wouldn't be thrilled to find metal bits in the oil pan after a rebuild, but it's par for the course.
