Air Filter Collapses?
I have a JRSC kit on my 1.6 with a DDMWorks intake. Once I upped the pulley ratio, the UNI filter that comes with the intake gets sucked back into the intake pipe. Has anyone replaced the UNI filter in this intake with something else? I'm looking at K&N. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Who in the F ing world would run a uni filter on anything? I'm surprised you haven't sucked the spring out of it.
Get a decent filter, one that actually flows enough air for your needs. |
That's what's included with the ddm intake. Foam filters flow very good by the way and filter better than k&n gauze. Care to offer an actual recommendation? Or are you just here to bash?

Foam filters flow good when they are sized appropriately. Yours is not. You need a larger filter preferably a k&n

I've never seen a foam filter that doesnt:
I'd just use a cotton/paper pod or whatever is shaped/sized to fit your intake. |
Ordered a K&N. Hope it fits in the box. Thanks guys.

Hint: a hair-dryer, on low heat (or fan-only, if yours supports it), jammed into the rubber boot of a K&N filter expedites the drying process after washing. It also makes the whole house smell of old filter oil, which beats the heck out of any Glade plug-in. |
I know it's too late since you already ordered it, but that filter is TINY. I had that box and was disappointed DDM would give a filter the size of a small orange.
Had I done it over, and wanted to keep the box, I'd try like a 45* elbow so I could get a longer filter in there with more surface area. Or, I'd look for one KN that fits... https://www.knfilters.com/search/univdualstroval.aspx ...and try to cap off the one of the flanges. At least my media surface would be tripled. Not only was the UNI filter tiny, the end was butt up into a corner and it's up against the side of the intake wall. I'd bet 1/2-2/3rds of that filter surface is doing most of the work. |
I agree, my dirt bikes have at least 2x the filter area of that intake. I used the k&n calculator for minimum filter area(and also accounted for the increased flow from the supercharger) and the filter I purchased should have about a 1.5x margin to their min number. I ended up with a round filter. I tried to find an oval shaped one, but they were all too long for the airbox. I'll update this post once I get it installed and see how it does.

looks really good too!
