Any Advice Before Teardown?

Well, getting ready to install a MP62 kit onto my 01 today/this-weekend. Any last minute advice before I do so? Anything I need to know in specific before? I know this sounds general, but wanted to make sure I wasn't skipping some big step before doing so. This will be my first major engine modification (but my dad was a mechanic, so I've learned a decent amount). Below is what I'll be installing:

MP62 Supercharger
TDR Tensioner
62.5mm pulley
TDR Intercooler
RX-8 420cc Injectors
Walbra 190lph Fuel Pump
Koyo Radiator
Xede (need to buy the 01 harness)

Already ran a tank of 93 octane through 'er in advance. While it is going to be out of service for a bit, I also plan on changing out the oil, spark plugs, and brakes.

Yes, you're missing the turbo:giggle:

That's what everyone keeps saying, but I picked all this up for a (what I thought to be) good deal though. We shall see soon enough thought if everyone "told me so." ;)

As this is MiataTurbo forum, the snail guys take every opportunity to give us a hard time. Just carry on.

I have a BRP MP62 intercooled setup waiting to go on my car. Only things I'm waiting on in order to proceed are my Reverant-built MS and a set of COPS.

I have/will have the plugs and fuel filter. Excuse my ignorance, but what is the advantage of the gm iat sensor? Header will be soon to follow. Also, why do you suggest a BOV? Doesn't the MP62 already have a bypass in it?

SmokeSR 10-27-2011 01:40 PM

You go BOV if you put the tb on the intake side (or reroute the bypass). Depends on your goals and priorities. Read jeff_man's other threads/posts to get more info about it - he also has vids available.

I would do the header at the same time. You'll want the blower off to install it.

What size crank pulley will you be running?

Ah, ok. The BOV makes a little more sense now. What are the benefits from adding the BOV though?

I'll be forced to do the header at a later time (hopefully not too much further down the road) due to needing to sell my motorcycle first. Wife said once I sell it, then I can get a couple more things (haha).

Crank pulley is stock.

By the way, thanks for not just bashing my lack of knowledge in this. Or, should I say, thanks for at least holding off a little bit. I'm still learning a lot through this process.

Why such a hot plug? I told you to run 7's, bitch. Never question me.

dyslexic, can never remember which car has the 5s and which has 7s

My system removed all throttle lag you get from a hotside kit and more power.

tdr/moss kit tells you to run the stock iat before the blower. I mean how else could the ecu know what your iat is after the fmic

Hot-wire MAF's/flow meters can work with this, but it usually doesn't respond well to what we do with cars.

that's what i was going to say. also, that plug gap is overkill. the bkr7 come gapped at .030 which is fine. i run that gap at up to 14-15psi on stock ign.

I would do the raceland header now if it will fit with the SC.

chokeasphyxia 10-28-2011 08:50 AM

Clutch?

SHHHH we had a meeting and that's the one thing we are going to let him figure out him self.

JakeLS01 12-10-2011 12:48 PM

Update...

So, I did the header at the same time. Ended up getting a Jackson Racing 4-2-1 header, found a good deal on a slightly used one. Also, I ordered a new clutch from Renown Performance. I got the CC Stage 3 FX3000 (if I remember those numbers right).

I haven't decided on the BOV yet, still reading about that a little.

As of right now, I'm putting everything back together to get it up and running. Hopefully all continues to go decently well!

Too bad they don't have miatasupercharger.net

deeno 12-12-2011 03:53 PM

Good luck! Installing any gauges at the same time? boost/afr? Did you replace the driver's side engine mount too while the header was out or is that unnecessary?
