The bee hits the roller

I finally got the bee to the dyno today. After overcoming some serious headaches, we finally got a descent tune on the car. I still think we left a little on the plate, but I am happy with the results.

A little breakdown of the car....
1992 Sunburst Yellow A package (2050lbs before FFS)
2000 1.8 Engine
440cc RC Engineering Injectors
Megasquirt PNP
AEM Water Injection

I set the cam gears back to 0 deg before the dyno. I'd like to head back and play with them and see if I can get the torque up a little.

We tuned it to 11.8 on 93 octane. It was much happier into the 12s, but being that it will get abused on the track, we took the conservative route. I stopped the pulls at 7100ish rpms. I have the rev limit set for 7500 and have been known to bounce of it in the past. So running the current plot into the 7500 range should have put me in the 225-230 range.

The first plot is the final run today. The 2nd plot is an overlay of my last trip to this dyno along with today's plot. Just a little change. :D

Shawn, did you get the Vacuum thing handled? Also, what pulleys are you running? Oh and do something about that lumpy torque curve! Heh

fourwhls 02-10-2008 08:44 AM

I still have something going on under high vacuum, but I haven't really taken much time to find it. I will figure it out eventually. It's not causing any performance issues. It's just an annoying tick.

I am running the 115mm crank pulley with the 65mm blower pulley.

how much boost?

fourwhls 02-10-2008 09:16 AM

I'm sorry I thought I listed the boost. It was 13 and some change. I'd have to go check one of the datalogs.

Nice! Bout time.

So when can I take it for a spin???

tann3r 02-10-2008 11:35 PM

Looking good! I cant wait to see some track footage with your extra power. When does your season start up there?

Also, how do you have your WI set up? Is the AEM unit a progressive controller? What size nozzle, when do you start spraying and when do you hit full pressure? i may have to follow your setup to keep things under control on track.

fourwhls 02-11-2008 08:16 AM

Our autocross season starts next month. I am heading to VIR in two weeks. I can't wait to see how it does. The camera will be rolling!

I have the tanks and pump mounted in the trunk and the nozzle mounted where the 5th injector would normally be. I am using the smallest nozzle in the kit. I think it's 175cc.

I have the WI coming in at 3psi and is at full power at 9psi. It appears to be working really well on the dyno. Let's see how it holds together in the real world.

tann3r 02-11-2008 11:51 AM

Did you make a plug for the 5th injector hole and drill and tap the plug for the nozzle?

Can you post up your on track WI usage when you get back from VIR? Just curious how large of a tank is required for a 20-30 session.

Thanks!

this an FFS setup? looks pretty good. but why the PNP and WI, a little overkill dontcha think :bang:

Basically! I converted the 5/8-18 hole to 1/8NPT and increased the counterbore so that my WI nozzle sits pretty close to flush with the inside of the manifold.

I have 2-one gallon tanks installed right now. I have the 2nd tank plumbed and ready to go but not connected. Based on my time on the dyno, I should only need one tank, but I will be ready with the 2nd if need be.

Brain...I like complication and headaches. That's as far as I am going with that statement.

Good job! :bigtu:

Don't be afraid from bouncing off 7500 on the dyno, the torture at the track is much worse ...

Spin the blower quicker to bump up the mid torque - it is a bit weak now, especially if you're going to autox it

mhoward1 02-18-2008 09:15 AM

Who are you going to with at VIR?

Aahhh.. should have realized that by looking at the Calendar. Just got back from there with THSCC.

Nasa MA does a good event there.
