Heat shield for hotside sc?

curious if anyone uses such to help keep temps off a hotside charger.. I've got my brackets done and think I'm close enough to the header that I might need to consider one for just helping temps stay lower.

I use 1 of these and have wrapped the exhaust.

Yeah, no kiddin'. I loved mine so much I kept for my turbo install. Works great.

I modified the stock metal shield - it also works great.

I'm another who has the TDR blanket. Put it on when I changed my stock manifold for an '01+ manifold. I haven't taken any actual temps underhood but it is noticeably cooler in the area with the blanket in place.

I have the header wrapped and the TDR header blanket.

I have a TDR blanket I'm selling if anyone is interested

Sold?

My header is heat wrapped and has a TDR cover. Works very very well.

Like a year ago...

Going on the car over the next couple weeks. Hopefully it's as good as everyone says it is.

I also have used the Trackdog heat shield, and was very happy with the results. At the same time I wrapped the headers. I live in Texas, and my engine bay used to get very hot. It used to burn you if you touched my hood (like leave skin in the hood hot). Now my temps are acceptable.

I even saw a noticeable drop on my water temps. I used to always sit on the right site of the halfway mark on my gauge. Now I am always on the left, like a stock car should be.

My bumper ended up melting a little after I put the heat shield on. So I know the header is getting hot. Only time will tell if the welds will take that much heat.

I have noticed that several turbo cars use the heat shield blanket. I assume it will also work for a m45 JRSC. Even stock NAs get pretty warm under the hood. I was considering a turn signal intake and headlight cover intake, but the blanket might just be the ticket

Header wrap and TDR here, big improvement

lexintexan 01-22-2015 11:45 AM

I built my own stainless steel heat shield at one point in time. I had a Jackson Racing header so the stock heat shield wouldn't fit. I can't say that I noticed much of an improvement. The thing I did notice an improvement on was a turn signal intake, that seemed to lower the intake air temps a good bit. (measured with a bipes set to retard timing with increase in iat, not a thermometer)

I have a quest. I am on 1.6 NB with a charger. The distance between charger and collector pipe is around 3cm. Pipes are warped with heat bandage, I have TDR blanket over, but it is in contact with the charger (I drove it like this 5K km). Should I remove it and keep only bandage or to modify the original metal shield to have a distance between it and the charger?

I used the blanket for a few hundred miles but don't like that it won't fit under the BRP bracket and is smashed against the steering shaft.

I sold it and ceramic coated the RB header to lower under hood heat (maybe) and built a stainless shield which will protect the SC oil and grease from direct radiant heat.
