hissing / grinding noise from m45
so recently i changed out my supercharger belt because it was slipping, squealing madly, and I wasn't getting any boost past 2psi. After the belt swap it sounded find but wasn't getting the full 5-6psi of boost on my gauge. I just thought maybe the belt needs to be broken in a bit more. So I drove around on it for a while then took it to Laguna Seca the day after. At the track I noticed this sound after 1 session.
i have no idea what can be causing it. I tighten down the clamps some more on the couplers...should I tighten it down some more? When I apply throttle to the car, the sound stays the same. I'll get a video of it asap. Not sure on what to do. :dunno: any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance. |
Coupler is shot. You need to open up the nose, replace the coupler and change the oil.

Welcome to the forum! Go make an intro thread before the wolves find you. Be prepared to wade through the abuse re:supercharger around here. Just sayin'
How many miles are on that blower? There are all kinds of bearings and crap inside those things that can go bad. Professional rebuild is not unthinkable. You can contact Magnuson in SoCal and see what they can do for you. They are an authorized Eaton dealer and service/rebuild center and I believe they were the original supplier to Jackson Racing back in the day. I had a M45 rebuild and rotor recoat quoted at around $350 a couple years ago, not sure what it goes for now. How close are you to Laguna Seca? I live right down the road. You should join up with NorCalUFO and come autoX with us in Marina :) |

So quite a bit away from laguna seca. i only drove up to norcal for the laguna seca event and to hang out with some of my norcal friends. next time i do go up, i'll give you a PM and hopefully there will be an autox event that's happening at the same time |
unless you damaged the unit somehow I would seriously doubt that 5K mile claim
I put 30,000 on an M-45; sold it to another miata nut who has added more miles and no damage |
Having belts misaligned (and way too tight) could damage the nose bearings. Once thos go, the coupler is toast.
