How to do a dual throttle body mod? 99 miata mp62 hotside
I've been googling my cars symptoms for a while and they seem to be well aligned with others who did this dual throttle body mod. It doesn't idle well on a cold start for 5-10 minutes (will idle fine after a few minutes of driving) and there is noticeable hesitation sometimes when pressing the throttle. Problem is, I don't speak car, so when I look at other threads about what people did, half of it doesn't make sense. What I usually do is order the parts, and get it installed by a mechanic or attempt to do it with a video tutorial. I couldn't find a video tutorial on this. First question: what do I need to buy? I have this on my list so far:
2003 MAZDA MIATA MX-5 1.8L NB OEM THROTTLE BODY IACV TPS MX5 99-05 | eBay What else do I need for this mod? If there is a video tutorial or a good step by step list, lemme know. Thanks |
This thread is fairly old but the concept is right
Dual Tb Questions - Forced Induction & N/A Power Mods - MX5Nutz Forum I bought the kit they talk about but didn't really like it so I designed my own - same method, just a different routing for the cable and connection at the throttle bodies. |

Sounds like a tuning issue mostly.
On my M45 setup, I now have an issue with the hand off between throttle bodies when the bypass closes that causes a slight jump in manifold pressure, duno if that is normal or not. May be because I am mixing 1.6 and 1.8 parts, I need to dig into it.... |

yeah, i asked since a decent aftermarket ECU doens't really need the dual TBs, even with all the extra throttled-volume.

Thats probably your problem. The dual throttle body setup (without an intercooler and such) just gets the car closer to stock so the stock ecu can handle things still.

Yea but a decent aftermarket ECU costs mula. Reverent or revenant (can't exactly remember his username) quoted me 950 for a megasquirt 3. And I'm assuming that's gonna need to be tuned as well. modifying a car assumes you have said money people without extra money to waste on car modifications, shouldn't be modifying cars You: "I have a broken leg, can I fix it with a band aid?" Us: "No, you need it treated by a medical professional" You: "but that costs mula" |

By the time you finish dicking with the dual throttle bodies, and everything else you're trying to do, you should have just bought a megasquirt. You can get a MS3 basic from Scott for a fair price. Get a used one for cheaper. |

Some say he once stabbed Christopher Walken in the eye with a soldering iron. Others think that he is the reason the word flux is in "flux capacitor."
All we know is, he is called the brain. :brain: |

OK so I found a used diyautotune mspnp2 for 99 miata, and ordered a gm iat sensor from diyautotune as well. I can't figure out where the iat sensor goes, however. Is there drilling and welding and bungs involved? If there's a thread that answers my questions, please send that to me because I can't seem to find it. Thanks in advance
