well, anyone else gonna try it? just cuz their smart enough NOT to try. Doesn't mean I'm NOT dumb enough to try.....:fawk: |
Looking forward to seeing how much money you spend to top out at 178 whp.
|
178 huh...I can get there with a cam swap
|
I doubt that, and it has nothing to do with the flow limits of an M45.
|
we'll see

Here's an interesting data point:
http://www.trackdogracing.com/website/dyno_run.htm '99 Miata with M45 and Boost Upgrade Kit – 196.46 RWHP and 173.00 Torque at 8 PSI The Jackson Racing M45 supercharger can produce some awesome horsepower and torque with a little help form Track Dog Racing. The key to more power is through cooler air using the TDR air-to-air intercooler system. This '99 Miata with a JRSC M45 Supercharger has the TDR air-to-air intercooler, JR Power Card, JR header, TDR Air Filter Kit, and the Crank Overlay pulley with the 62.5 mm SC pulley. The great thing about adding a TDR air-to-air intercooler to a M45 setup is that when you want to move up to the MP62 (and you know you will) only the supercharger pipe needs to be changed. Oh, forgot to mention, that's on a 1999 1.8l. |

No, there is no "we'll see". You're not going into uncharted territory, people have been dumb enough to max out a m45 and the result is always the same. Piss poor power and a shit ton of money spent.

Just do it already.

Why all this fuss over 200WHP?
I'm still on my SNC 1.6 and going strong. I love the 1.6 motor, however, I do not love superchargers. :2cents:. |
Go hang out at cr.net. Those guys are constantly buying and selling M45 kits.

because I'm bored. 200 will give me 10:1 HP/weight. That's where I'd like the car to be.

I had last weekend a ride on 1.6 with build up motor and mp62 that had TDR IC etc. all the needed parts.
201whp and nice whine.. Good luck. |

if you want to read it that way...that's up to you. Savington and Joe both put out numbers that when plugged into the appropriate formulas say it is possible to break 200 with an M45.
Let's refresh your memory:

Even at 310cfm, and a .5 bsfc, you're looking at ~227bhp at best. Knock 15% off of that and you're at 185whp, which is about 10whp more than I've ever seen an m45 produce.
Empirical evidence says you won't break 200whp with an M45. If you want 200-220, you need an MP62 or a small turbo. |
