JR Boost Timing Control Unit #999-490 questions
I have a 1.6 PS/AC with the JR M45 supercharger. I am using the AFPR and a
90-97 JR Boost Timing Control Unit #999-490. I am planning on switching to a Link ECU soon. I need some information on how to install and remove the Boost Timing Control Unit. I have so far been unable to find any documents like that in the web and not much in the way of support from Jackson Racing or their designated agent Moss Motors. Basically these kits seem to be orphans... Anyway, I'd love some information and I will be selling the boost control unit soon. I posted this question on the Miata forum as well, I hope to improve my chances to get information..... |

I would start by looking around for the instructions. Shoot an email to Moss and ask if they still have them posted somewhere. I would imagine removal would be reverse of installation.

I just removed mine as a part of upgrading to a MP62. This was on a 2000 with a 1.8, I can't say just how different the installation on a 1.6 would be. There is a sensing line that comes off a nipple on the upper intake manifold (on my '00 it was on the front) that is routed back to the unit. The line is part of the timing controller so you will pull it into the passenger compartment. You should have an adjustment knob, depending upon how it was mounted you might need to cut those wires to get it out. Lastly there are three (IIRC) wires that connect to the wiring going into your ECU. Really all you should have to do is pull the timing controller out and then trace where the wires are going and remove them.
