Measuring Charge Air Temp in IM for Coldside MP62

Anyway ever use something like this to measure intake air temps between SC and intake runners? Want to avoid the classic GM open element brass body altering results for such a transient area. From what I can tell this is used in a few OEM SC applications.

Looking to measure effectiveness of a few water/meth layouts and have a safety check against heat soak for an intercooler-less setup.

Another Option, still brass

Maybe more applicable to your situation than for SuperTuner's. Just a thought.

Another option. No first hand experience with it but Ford uses them in boosted applications to measure IAT after charge cooling.

Appreciate it man, nice pull. This seems like the winner: https://www.kasensors.com/sites/defa.../NTC2F.811.pdf

I just fitted an open element K type thermocouple designed for AIT into my coldside setup, to measure post sc pre chargecooler temps.

Space limits meant I couldn't add a normal sized AIT sensor but I could just squeeze the 1/8npt thermocouple in there.

Downside is you have to run an amplifier to convert to a 0-5v input for the ECU.

Positive is the open element should react extremely quickly (and it is very compact).

I'll feed back if I have success with it if you are interested.

I'm using it for a similar reason, to measure the effectiveness of my pre sc WI nozzle / calculate charge cooler efficiency and adiabatic efficiency of the sc

Yeah definitely a valid solution, appreciate the input man. Main motivation with going off-the-shelf was more about not dealing with shielding/reliability concerns of a more custom route. I use open element PT100s a decent bit at work so might just fall back on that for the overkill route if it comes down to it. That said I've been a pretty big fan of this IC if you're still looking for the amp part (just the demo boards thus far but still): https://www.analog.com/en/products/l...oduct-overview

That chip is a beast! 20 inputs!

It's really only the space that drove me to the K type. Testing so far since I last posted hasn't really gone to plan. Haven't really seen any sensible data from it yet but I will keep trying, it should just be a setup thing.

Just a quick update to tie the loop on the K type thermocouple air temp sensor I have been trying to use post SC pre chargecooler - I am finding it slow to react to changes and pretty unresponsive. It really appears to measure the temp of the housing body it is installed in rather than the air temp, despite it being an open non enclosed design specifically for air temps. A normal high temp air temp sensor would be a better shout.

I will be swapping it out at some point.

I mean if you really want to do it right right you can grab one of these 😂

Shame the smallest is 1/4npt really, but yeah that'd do the job!

I'm sure someone makes 1/8NPT PT100 air probes, omega is just an easy catalog haha.
