New here and looking for some parts or help
 
Hey everyone,

I know I'm pushing my luck here with it being a TURBO site but miata guys all talk. And in all fairness I will be swapping for a turbo in the future. It's just cheaper to mod what I already have.

Just bought me a 1991 miata with the jrsc m45 blower. Unfortunately I bought it before finding out about the different series of m45's and long story short I have a cone pulley. I am looking for a tony pulley or if anyone can enlighten me on how to make the tdr pulley work that would be greatly appreciated. I have also heard rumor that Brainstorm products made a few as well before they went to pot. I just want to run 7-10psi as that seems to be safe with the m45.

I've also tried to find out about the magnuson swap so I could use the newer tdr style but haven't had any luck. That or haven't typed the right words into googles search bar.

Anything helps, links to sites or people with parts, a machinist, anything.

Info on the car: stock internals and head, 4psi jrsc setup, full custom exhaust, eibach lowering springs on 18" motegi wheels running yokahoma z rated 205's.

before we go further. WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR ENGINE MANAGEMENT.

I probably know the answer. And my answer would be put the car back to stock for a bit. Sell the S/C. Buy a MS. Learn to tune on stock engine while you piece together a turbo setup that won't destroy your car. Profit.

Maybe a 1.8L swap before you go turbo too.

Right now stock ecu. I do plan on getting an ms. I have an entire build planned that would turn this community on its head and red in the face!

However the 1st stage is to get a ms, swap for a turbo, redo internals with wiseco over bored high compression pistons (wanna do an e85 build) and pauter (I'm not sure on the spelling) rods, injectors and a fuel rail hopefully push 350whp

I've been stalking a few forums for a minute and you aren't the first to say learn to tune first which I do plan on doing. I still wouldn't mind having some fun in the meantime. It's like $100 for the pulley compared to $700 for the ms, $1000 for a cxracing turbo kit upwards of $3000 for flyin miata/begi, and $500 for injectors and a rail. I know, it's all gonna come off, I just want some fun in the mean time.

If you are running the stock ECU with no way to compensate for the addition 4psi, you are on borrowed time. At 7psi you wouldn't last the day. Most of those jrsc kits at least came with a P P P P Power card or some sort of rising rate fpr to add extra fuel. You may want to check that. If you are on stock timing it's even more dangerous.

I'll go ahead and assume that you do not have a wide band o2 sensor either. If you did you would find that (assuming you don't have anything to add extra fuel with the boost) you are running extremely lean once that s/c makes positive pressure in your manifold.

Make no mistake I am not trying to be a dick. I am only trying to save you from destroying your engine.

If you are dead set on running that s/c, step one is getting your fuel and timing set up. The best way is a MS. You can use band aidz but honestly it almost costs as much as a basic MS and is not even in the ball park of what a MS can do.

Nope, I'm good with criticism, I'm the noob here, things are gonna come across blunt. I'm ready for it. This is a whole new thing for me as its my first FI engine.

And you are right, no wideband. All the mods are above. That's it. Nothing else. And somehow a wideband was left off the to-do list so thanks.

I bought the car with everything installed, it could have the power card in it... Anyway to check?

I was aware from other forums it would be running lean at higher boost if you didn't have an ecu or injectors.

My question is how come you can run a turbo at 7psi without needing ecu or injectors but you need it with a 4psi s/c? There seems to be mixed reviews on this topic... Or I'm missing something.

I'm the noob. Totally ready to be schooled.

I can check timing and see if its been changed. Is there anywhere I can get some specs for where Jackson racing recommends it?

First, You can in no way, shape or form reliably run a turbo at 7psi with out a way of increasing fuel.

The problem is this isn't a school. It's like a library. All the information you could ever need about boosting(at least enough to keep you busy for a long time) is on this forum. Check the DIY turbo section (which is where the above link is located). Look at some of the build threads. Check out the stickies in each of the sub-forums as they usually contain answers to the most asked questions. Most of the time we don't do well with spoon feeding answers to questions that have been asked 10000 times.

Even at libraries there are still people who help and answer the same questions everyday. There's always going to be a new guy. Someone is always selling and buying cars. I know nobody wants to answer the new guy questions but you were the new guy once too. You didn't always have the answers.

Okay, we are a more efficient library. Where all of your questions are answered and easily found via a search query. I was a noob once too, and guess what I searched ;)

Wow, That link helped me realized that miatas are running coils and not a dizzy which is probably why you were saying get an ms and don't touch boost. If the power chip isn't there I can see where problems lay. And that's why I'm the new guy =\
