My MP62 SC has devloped a noise that sounds like a diesel engine is running. I have recorded the sound and if you think that it would help you help me I would be very happy to email the WAV file to you.

A little history:

2001 Miata
50K miles on car
25K miles on SC
I suspect the previous owner(PO) was a spirited driver and used the available hp as I have.
PO changed the SC internal oil 1500 miles ago.
Running 11psi max

does it sound like marbles clanging around? The M62 on the Cobalt SS' had the same problem.....

.....it's the coupler in the snout of the supercharger! Easy fix though. The coupler should only be about $30

at 25k miles it's over do for a soft rebuild (replace rubber parts, regress and new oil)

The coupler is one of the rubber parts that jeff mentioned. An oil change wouldn't hurt either!

Just don't overfill it or you'll be decreasing the life of the supercharger

Don't you replace all of the seals on your turbo every 25k miles?

by a rebuild kit, it comes with everything you need and premeasured oil

there are no seals you need to replace, you just have to change the oil. if you wanted to you could drill it out and run a cooler and pump like a centrifugal but it's not needed.

I personally would recommend changing main bearing seal in the nose section whilst you have it all apart. Once you have the nose pulley off it takes 20 seconds to change it.

Size is 20mm x 52mm x 7mm I replaced mine with a Viton type seal just to be doubly sure.

Hi All,

A thank you to all that took the time to reply; I valued all your input, expertise and wit.

I have been spared. The consensus was to replace the coupler and while there replace the bearing. Well, after removing the SC belt I noticed that the SC nose pulley was not on tight. Not by much but none the less had to be tightened. And there you have it my first repair to my newly acquired machine. The fun goes on in Western Massachusetts.
