Supercharger Belt Slip Maybe?
 

Hey guys, I've got a strange problem with the blower.

I recently changed my timing belt and water pump and during the post-work test drive when I went to full boost the revs suddenly dropped and the car lunged forward. It then happened twice more before it stopped.

I assumed it was belt slip and with the blower not turning and the bypass valve closed it cut all air to the engine. But since it didn't happen after that I figured it was a little oil on the belt.

This morning it happened again though three times. I'm thinking it might not be belt slip because the revs should stay sustained due to the car being in gear. I also don't think it's det or a misfire as the a/f ratio is almost dead on and there are no pinging sounds or anything.

Any ideas for stuff I could check? I can't seem to replicate it and it doesn't matter whether the car is warm or cold. This morning it did it the first time I went in to boost and then not again for about 30 minutes. However it only does it when I pass 4psi. The car doesn't show any other signs of belt slip either, although I'm using an electronic boost gauge which doesn't really vibrate like a mechanical one. Otherwise the car runs just fine.

I think I may have the problem where the MS reboots, I've checked the grounds, and IAT and everything seems normal, any other places to check?

Have you checked your vac/boost lines?
Something may have been knocked off or loose after the work on the car.

Belt slip would not cause that. All that would happen is a lower maximum boost level.

Also, try waiting a moment between turning the key on and cranking the engine..

Is the bypass valve OK?

Problem should be solved (I hope). After much more digging I found the thread about MS reboots and it fit the problem pretty well. When I got under the hood the ground point below the TB looked good so I left it alone. However the bolts on the coil packs were fairly loose so I tightened them down, replaced the plug wires, checked the plugs for proper gaping and re soldiered the IAT pigtail.

I've put about an hour on the car so far with no problems.

Its is the belt! I was having the same exact problem with mine and I changed the belt and it never happened again. Oddly enough autozone even had the supercharger belt in stock (wasnt gatorback though) only $13. I though it was a wiring problem at first also, so I played around with the wires. I never though that the SC belt slipping would have that big of an impact!
