VF sc installation instructions request

Yes Im'a noob, yes it appears I've made a fatal error by purchasing a sc instead of a turbo, and yes all my info is here on my 1st post which is a simple small easy to read paragraph.

TIA for your help.

Post up pics of all the parts you've got for the supercharger... take good pics, lay everything out on white towells or something... we can probably walk you through it. If I remember right, all the parts are pretty self-explanatory. On the other hand, superchargers suck, and the VF engineering one is it's own special brand of suck.

If you want to go through with this... Imgur.com = Drag-and-drop uploading and image hosting. We await the insanity. Have you tried actually contacting VF directly about it?

My other recommendation is to ebay the thing and try to minimize loss. You are in SF so that means CA emissions compliance. Your car is a 2000 so that means you are screwed when it comes to legal boost. IIRC Moss Motors MP62 & FFS MP62 kits are the only CARB (California Air Resources Board) approved FI systems for a 2000 Miata. There is a very special brand of hatred for FFS on this forum, so watch your mouth around here. At least you can put an intercooler on the Moss unit. The FFS unit is just... flawed. Search here or over on m.net for results.

If you don't care about legality, call up BEGi or FM and get your debit card ready. Or save some cash and lurk here for a couple months, read everything, get a copy of Maximum Boost by Corky Bell and read it cover to cover, then DIY some turbo goodness.

Good Luck mang!

I know the CA emissions makes mine an especially fuxxored situation. I have contacted VF directly and hope to be getting a PDF file soon. I didn't realize the level of hatred for FFS systems here, but was directed here by a few NORCAL miata loyalists stating that peeps here were a good bunch. I'm still hoping that's the case.

I am taking your advice. Thanks! :bigtu:

The short version on FFS:

1. While the quality of the parts is fine, the design of the system (particularly the lack of true control over spark and fueling, and the half-assed E-cool system) is almost purposefully dumb.
2. Tom's marketing plan seems to be built on hanging around m.net and talking shit about his competition.

No reason you couldn't build a decent Roots setup out of an FFS kit, but it'd take more money than necessary just to undo the dumbness inherent in Tom's design.

Also, have you checked the m.net archives? What I would do in your shoes is search m.net for threads on VF superchargers. If you can identify any members there that have or have in the past had VF superchargers, PM them requesting any info they'd be willing to provide (pics of their engine bays, scans of the installation sheets, etc.).

Thanks Mark, m.net was the first place I looked. Theres a lot of discussion about the VF sc, but no install instructions. I have recieved an email request for more information from VF tech support, so I'm hoping to get that PDF file anytime now.

I am planning to do a "built" megasquirt unit for management.

Well, you are in the sc section now, so at least you are posting in the right area. That should help a lot :bigtu: The folks around here are smart, but we are both in the wrong FI camp. I'm of the opinion they believe that water pumps, alternators and cams are the only things that should be belt driven. Better grow a thick skin if you are going to start asking sc questions!

+1 for mgeoffriau's recommendation. There should still be some info floating around M.net about the VF.

maxh2o 07-13-2011 02:26 AM

Thanks G. I'm still sniffing around m.net for good info.

Just got the PDF install instructions as well as a grip of pictures from the tech assistance at VF, so I'm good. If anyone here needs help, feel free to pm me.

EO2K 07-14-2011 03:03 PM

Awesome! Glad VF was able to help out! I'm curious, how is fuel (& timing) managed on the returnless NB fuel system with the VF?

Better continue this as a build thread so we can watch the horror :giggle:

do you still have that pdf? could you email it to joinhalo@gmail.com if you do please?

RunninOnEmpty 12-20-2014 02:55 PM

You can grab it here. Look under the VF Engineering section. Open the Zip, and the PDF is the one that says MX5-Fitting...

The instructions sorta suck. Rather than embedding the install pics into the PDF, they send you a full text pdf and then just a pile of images you have to sort through.
