1.8-1.6 diff swap
For some reason, even with the recent threads about LSD's, I can't seem to find my answer.
I blew my 1.6 diff (finally) this Sunday at the track, and have a 1.8 from a 1997 coming (open unfortunately, can't afford the torsen) I have the housing with diff inside, and axles. Do I need the drive shaft as well? I heard the only difference is the four bolts are bigger, is this true? Seems like someone would of figured out how to drill the drive shaft flange out, it locates with a little spud, not the bolts. |
Yep, you need the driveshaft. Find an Rx7 LSD (86-88 GXL, 88 GTU) and throw it in while you're at it. You can find them for $75-100 or so.

the RX7 LSD goes in the 1.8 house, or uses the RX7 housing? And what axles/drive shaft with that? I'm getting all these open diff parts for $80, so I'm not complaining. But I'll definitely keep the RX7 LSD in mind if it fits these new parts of mine.

A wrecking yard was selling it for $200 with a 20% discount to racers. Then my sponser is picking up half the $160 bill and I'm putting his shops graphics on my car, leaving me with $80. Although with the drive shaft it'll be closer to $110-$120 probably.
